It was inevitable that they were going to follow suit with a DR offering. I do, however, wish they would focus more on fixing their damn awful clients. I understand they wanted to appease the non-windows lot who were very vocal in their displeasure at having to use a windows box to manage their virtualised estate, but if you're going to replace a client that works, at least get one that performs just as well, preferably better, before you start hobbling the original one. The HTML5 version (that will hopefully eventually replace the java mess) should be all singing and dancing, instead it's a travesty. Slow, buggy and not even able to manage all settings.

Let us not forget that the "Widnows lot" had to put up with some pretty shitty stuff as well, restrictions on what version of Windows/java/flash versions etc.
But your underlying point is valid - fix the $DIETY damn management tools and make the work smoothly on multiple platforms.
No, no, you miss the point - All sys-admins are now code warriors too... All we need to SSH, Powershell, Cli and an encyclopedic knowledge of multiple system's text based commands and operators to wrangle stuff...
On a related note, even the "official" cert training guides state on the one hand: "All VMware features since 5.5 need to be managed via the web client" (as opposed to the fat client). Then a few pages on its talks about how the Fat client is often useful when the web client doesn't work correctly. So at least they are (sort of) acknowledging its short comings.
