back to article Rumble in the off-the-shelf server jungle: HPE comes out swinging

HPE has the biggest cojones in the server business, bending tin, designing silicon and pushing photonics, all the while mixing it in the rough and tumble of the COTS jungle. It has a multifaceted range of servers varying by processor architecture and type, processor carrying card form factor, and chassis design and intent. We' …

    Inverse halo

The high end Itanium systems are rotting on the vine with no significant new silicon from Intel in years, which tends to put an inverse halo on the rest of the range. Which is a shame, as a lot of the mid range systems are quite nice.

Is there another merger on the cards?

In other word's HPE has amassed the biggest pile of server junk in the history of tech, unfortunately I don't have time to educate the author on how IBM's proprietary POWER processor crushed Itanium in the UNIX space and how it's (proprietary) OpenPOWER will crush it in the Linux space, leaving them consigned to Windose, battling in it out with Cisco, Dell, Lenovo and a whole host of ODM's on ever decreasing margin's.

The once mighty HP, split in two on yesterday's business model.

Speaking of which, the once mighty EMC forced into the bosom of Dell who themselves couldn't handle public eye scrutiny, coming together on yesterday's business model, with the biggest pile of storage junk ever amassed under one umbrella.

Surely the coming together of Dell Technologies and HPE would be a match made in heaven with added convenience for Mr. Mellor being able to drool in one place.
