Microsoft's warned users of its StorSimple network-attached storage devices to update them ASAP, because they might not be finishing backups. You had one job, Microsoft … one job. It's Microsoft

Microsoft doesn't need a bug to kill your backups, it does it through sheer force of habit.

    To state the obvious...

    1. Clearly there's no simple "backup complete / backup failed" output from the system (or else nobody is looking at it)

    2. Clearly, nobody affected did any sort of trial restore, or noticed the missing files

A backup doesn't exist until it has been tested

      Re: To state the obvious...

Point 2 not necessarily so. It might well be that no one has suffered dataloss, and that the failure was identified by someone actually doing a trial restore.

Microsoft knows how important backups are

As evidenced by this informative and relevant article:

Storage is hard. It takes a long time to get right. There is no way around the time and pressure that is required.

    Just upgrade to Windows 10

Microsoft will have a copy of all your data, just ask them for a copy to restore.

Microsoft's success in the hardware business

After all, the only time Microsoft made a product that didn't suck was when they got into the vacuum business.

    Can M$ use their connections...

Is this a situation where M$ could use their links with the NSA to retrieve your data from the NSA cache...
