    LoraWAN doesn't need big network support. Just the internet.

    The Things Network has a community initiative - https://www.thethingsnetwork.org

    You can buy nodes and gateways here - https://shop.thethingsnetwork.com I make it € 950 for a gateway and 10 nodes, or slightly less if you use arduino Uno boards as nodes.

    I'm sure in the future, organisations will want to interwork with the many proprietary IoT networks. For now, this is the first network that allows individuals to get involved.
