back to article Space boffins win $3m prize for discovering gravitational waves

The team of scientists involved in the successful detection of gravitational waves has been awarded the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics – along with $3m. The Breakthrough Prizes, awarded for scientific achievements, are funded by Russian billionaire and physicist Yuri Milner, along with tech entrepreneurs …

How big a prize will I win when I teach the world gravitational wave surfing. It's really fun but the wipe outs are a bitch.

    Re. Hawking

The jury is out whether Prof. Hawking will share a Nobel this year for his work on black holes (which indirectly led to the detection of GWs) or the detection of the sonic analog of Hawking radiation from superfluid vortices in liquid 3He.
