back to article Continuous Lifecycle: Making a big noise about microservices

They may be small, but microservices are having a real impact on the way real world organisations are developing, deploying and maintaining their software. That’s why we’ve got thought leaders and real world users discussing the impact of microservices architectures at Continuous Lifecycle London from May 3 to 5. Electric …

Round here I get barely perceptible nanoservices

Pah, in my day it was femtoservices, and we had to do them ourselves!

    Microservices...

Roughly translates as - Let us make your project and infrastructure more complex, whilst at the same time we can fleece you for more money!

      I am truly grateful AC.

Sometimes I just need the latest trends in language I can understand.

DevOps - has anybody said it yet?

If not then let me be the first.

DevOps - there, I said it.

Perhaps el Reg could publish an article on 'how to avoid DevOps alert fatigue' as well.*

    * only a short one, mind you - a microservice to us all.

    Who the hell...

...comes up with this shit? Microservice? Up until a few weeks ago I had never even heard of it. (not a dev). Looked in to it. What we are talking about are services, or small apps that run like a service. But hey, lets give it a cool name. Maybe I'm turning into old IT guy, but I'm about sick of all the buzz words. Just give me the code or app and let me make it work on a server. Keep the buzz out of it please.

      Re: Who the hell...

I don't think you've grasped the finer points.

DevOps .. sorry, microservices are a new and improved evolution of containers whereby, instead of sharing a common core and delivering encapsulated bundles of just enough extra to deliver whatever service you wish to containerise into a lightweight solution, you duplicate the kernel along with the extras in the container.

It's ever so clever. - it makes them kernel independent, you see.

I predict that the next stage in the evolution of software as software will be delivering all the extras an app needs so that you don't need to worry about shared libraries - everything you need in one, independent container.

I fully expect that, within the next five years, some genius will work out how to virtualise hardware into software as well.

After that, the sky's the limit - you could even run multiple 'machines' on a single hardware platform !!!

The final stage will, of course, be the separation of the user's I/O device(s) from the services delivered, such that a single hardware machine can 'serve' the virtualised applications to a remote, diskless 'client' machine.

Hell, one day, the 'client' needn't even be static - it could be mobile and fit in your pocket (or at least on your lap anyway).

        Re: Who the hell...

OH! that makes everything much more clear. Thanks. Although your idea of clients fitting into pockets or on small portable platforms is just ridiculous. Lets try to keep the silliness to a dull roar please.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, a bit overexcited.
