back to article Big Blue’s big storage iron gets bigger: DS8880 array uncloaked

IBM has a new high-end array, the DS8880, sporting a faster processing complex which can double sequential data access speed1 over the previous (DS8870) generation through new Power8 controllers. The DS8000 arrays are at the absolute top end of the monolithic storage array tree, and are on the same general level as EMC’s VMAX …

I'll take one 3 terabyte array?

Anyone still buy this stuff? I mean anyone who doesn't run everything on pSeries / mainframe and essentially get given one of these as part of the deal?

The DS8000 arrays are at the absolute top end of the monolithic storage array tree, and are on the same general level as EMC’s VMAX and HDS’ VSP arrays.

    We shouldn't forget Huawei's 18000 either.

    nor FUJITSU's DX8000 S3 series!!!!!

These and their new mainframes would not look out of place in the Bale-era Batman movies. Maybe IBM is too classy to go for the blatant product-placement (and cameo) that Oracle paid for in Iron Man. They should though. This is totally the new "Batcomputer".
