After all, for them, it is the entire object of their investing in an object storage startup.
Very cheeky!
How long you been keeping that under your hat for?
Dell is offering Scality object storage using its servers, storage hardware, and networking products. What makes this of greater interest is that Dell tried selling object storage before, with a DX6000 object storage product set started up in 2010. This was based on OEM’d Caringo software and the line was closed down in April …
That fact that Dell is using PowerEdge servers and the MD line of storage, which traditionally was the lowest end line of storage and not anywhere near the so-called Enterprise capabilities of the Compellent line, goes to show that Dell has now done to Compellent what it did to EqualLogic before. Seeing as how I worked for the EqualLogic group at Dell when we were politically screwed over by Alan Atkinson and his most favored son group in Minnesota I can't help but laugh hysterically that they finally got what we all knew was going to happen to them eventually.
