    Linked in are celebrating

At last someone actually took one of their emails seriously.

Ooops, have to go, I have one just in from them now asking me if I'd like to connect to the schoolfriend of a colleague who once met the brother of a bloke I was on a train withs uncle who he met him at a grass growing conference 20 years ago.

    about

two years ago I was being interviewed for a job with a relatively small software house who provide some security products to (mainly) government based organisations. I was asked by the GM whether I had a linked in account - as "he found it useful to see who I knew". Half an hour later (they let me rabbit on) after a full and frank discussion about LinkedIn, security issues and their own clients they offered me the job.

Two weeks after I joined, the company requested that everyone removed their LinkedIn accounts and also audited other social networks they were contributing to. Dohhhh

I am not a fan of LinkedIn, but reluctantly am on it because prospective employers want the comfort of the crowd. I have myself gained nothing from it, but if they want to go see that I have links with many nice and interesting (and obliging) people, then go ahead. Don't risk a thing on just talking to me and checking my references.

I have an account, which only links to people I don't do business with. It is an *excellent* platform for misinformation IMHO :)

And what does a suspicious link look like?

Does it hang around on street corners?

Given the extensive use of short link services, its hard to tell. Anyway, since you have to follow at least 3 links to get anywhere, you have to be quite determined to reach some dubious.
