geez guys, when you take a close up picture of a computer screen, CLEAN IT FIRST.
It's about forking time: Node.js, io.js to mend differences, remerge
The Node.js open source project and its fork, io.js, have decided to kiss and make up, with the aid and support of the Linux Foundation. Node.js is an open-source, OS-agnostic runtime environment that allows developers to write server-side web applications using JavaScript. Several prominent Node.js developers forked its code …

or entertaining and product that depends on it
Fanboi, or tramp? (I'm a tramp, as it happens)
Android is pretty damn good, and is one of several reasons why I've started picking up Java _in addition_ to .NET (which I've been doing since 2001).
Java, in my view, needs a serious amount of money spending on it. The current five year plan is not ambitious, especially when compared to Microsofts plan for .NET everywhere. It feels like stepping back in time to .NET 2.0 - so I'm extremely hopeful Oracle will flog it to someone that can afford to spend on it.

Java is Enterprise, C# is not
Enterprise is characterized by stability and very long support cycles. Some Mainframes still run very very old code today. Java is targeting Enterprise, and therefore the language evolves very slowly. This was an outspoken goal by Sun. But the development of all libraries should be very fast, but the language development slow and thoughtful. Java is not about adding every feature available, like C++ or C#. It is about maturity and stability.

ITYF C++ is pretty damn mature by now. Sure , the standards committee just don't know when to leave well alone but the core language won't change and has been stable since 98. In 98 java was just some toy language used in web craplets.

"I was kind of hoping that Java would just disappear."
Java might not be the best programming language around but compared to the dogs dinner known as javascript it could have been written by Turing himself.
Its bad enough with javashit in the browser, I can't imagine the reasoning behind using it server side other than the people using it are former web hacks who only know javascript and are now trying to do some grown up programming using it. Well good luck, with that.
