Re: Galaxy Note 3 falling to bits after a year

Second-hand and very good windoze laptops or notebooks (except the batteries are usually at death's door) are very cheap, at least around here.

I had the impression that the Samsung devices had superlative hardware. Perhaps that is just because Apple has such a cute love/hate relationship with them?

Maybe the Japanese and Taiwanese makers are doing a better job? I do not know (well, I do a bit, but never let down an NDA). Note that Panasonic has a 'tough' Android tablet out, in the tradition of their 'tough' notebooks.

If your Galaxy is falling apart from tough conditions of use, maybe a 'tough' machine would be a better fit?

Really must spend more time in user fora.

Sorry I was not able to offer more constructive suggestions.

Question of my own. As an Android veteran, at least relative to me, if one downloads an android program for a charge, is it automatically transferrable to another device that one owns?

I have tried searching for the answer in Japanese and English for a few hours, asked at the provider's real shop (of course it is not up to them to answer), tried to find the info on Google's shop, thought of asking the maker of what I want to buy and want to be transferrable to another device, but that doesn't seem fair because I haven't bought it yet.

The unsatisfying answer is that it depends. The developer of the Neutron music player allows concurrent use across all devices, for example, no matter if the OS is either Android or a BlackBerry iteration (I'm not saying BB10 because the orphaned Playbook tablet is still supported by this developer too). I am uncertain if that largess would extend to other developers. My intuition tells me that once purchased I would have the ability to download it with an other device using the same credentials.

Thank you. I guess I will have to contact the developers. Mainly, music applications, I suspect some of the controls will be too small to use live on a phone, so am finally considering a tablet, also Android. Is Android-to-Android generally possible?

One of the devs also has donation-ware versions for Linux etc., if I buy the Android versions, I suppose I can download the PC versions without guilt.

The other is exclusively for phone OSs and a few other oddities (programmable carts for Nintendo hand-helds).

Few people are interested in these not-easy-to-use programs, so looking at the number of downloads, mail to the programmers would probably not be too much of a bother for them.

          Thx again.

I am sorry to hear that.

Thought they were better quality than that.

I can only suggest that you contact Samsung directly, I am sure that if you were in Korea, they would be helpful about an affordable solution, not so sure about how much they would be able to support a UK customer. I would imagine the distributors are less interested in helping the customer.

Seriously, try contacting Samsung in Korea, I am pretty sure they will try to help. East Asian (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, some in mainland China) tech companies with the higher-end products generally have great respect for the customer, and are very embarrassed by failures.

      I will add

that the single-channel audio you are now getting is almost certainly a simple wiring break, did you always take care putting the plug in?

      Battery life

always falls precipitously, no matter the product. Little fuel cells would likely be a better solution, but until then ...

    Note 3

I also have a Note 3, 1.5 years old. Installed & un-installed a ton of crap and half filled both memories (64gb sd).

    I've not been kind.

Still runs smooth as snake poo & no issues.

    .

Mono - Check if your phone needs a cleaning. A little bit of grey sweat/dust goo can give anyone mono. ;-)

Screen burn-in - Really odd, especially on an LCD screen. Technically they shouldn't be able to be "burnt in" due to it just being a light filter and it occurring within month is extremely unlikely, even CRTs would take a year or two. Sounds like dodgy hardware at time of purchase.

Update - I've had no luck with the update for over-the-air or via Kies either. It may be rolled out a lot later or never.

Service - If you're uk based it may be worth taking your phone to Carphone Warehouse. They're pretty good at quickly sorting these things and billing the responsible party (you / samsung / insurance / mobile provider).

Other - Try running an anti-virus. It most likely won't sort anything but still worth a go for elimination's sake.

If you fancy a new OS you could try Cyanogenmod. This will void your warrantee but you'll have the latest OS plus complete control. This can completely stuff your phone if you get it wrong though.

      Burn-in

My mistake about the burn-in. I forgot the screen is AMOLED.

There are apps that can correct this issue by burning in the rest of the screen, but this will degrade the display overall and nothing will prevent the ghost images from reoccurring.

      .

The only thing I can think of is that you've had the phone displaying a clock in high brightness and high contrast when docked and charging. So 16hrs a day the battery is charged and the display is on, shortening the life of both.

      .

Otherwise your phone is a lemon and needs replacement.

      .

I really like the handset too but wouldn't hold it against anyone if they didn't.
