back to article Bitcoin blackmail gang start hurling DDoSes at Scandinavia

Bitcoin extortionists DD4BC have begun targeting Scandinavian companies with complex DDoS attacks. DD4BC is blackmailing targets by asking them to pay 40 bitcoins or more to avoid their central services being subject to DDoS attacks. Extortionate demands typically appear in emails around an hour after targets are blitzed off …

    NSA/GCHQ?

Maybe they should use some their capabilities for something more useful than ineffective mass surveillance and fearmongering.

I'm sure the world would be a better place and they would have more respect if they spent a few percent of our tax dollars/pounds doing something pertinent to the majority rather than 100% on a target that will always evade 100% of their efforts.

[nsa-gchq] But combating cyber crims is haaaaard. Slurping peoples private stuffs is easy and we might find something fun!

"In many cases, our "customers" fear that if they pay us once, we will be back and ask for more. That’s not how we work. We never attack the same target twice."

    ROFL!

    The internet is so confusing

"We do bad things, but we keep our word."

    So they're good guys then?

    Yes but...

Who warranties that other groups don't attack them after?

Pay once, and get your details published on the dark net as "suckers" waiting to be "collected".

        Re: Yes but...

surely you aren't saying that charities will perform DDOS extortion attacks?

Or that the next logical step for cyber crims is to employ chuggers?

        It's a conspiracy!

          Re: Yes but...

No I would state that cyber crims have far more morals than to stoop to using chuggers.

    Any recent marks?

Had an email from one of our ISP's about this stuff today, seems they are seeing enough of it to flag it with customers yet this is the only thread mentioning DD4BC?

Seems a bit strange to see a response about something that has gathered so little headlines and feedback, unless it is another money spinner for the ISP "DDoS mitigation".
