back to article Colombian hacker who spied on gov-rebel peace talks jailed for 10 years

A Colombian hacker has been incarcerated for 10 years for spying on the local government’s peace talks with Marxist rebels, among other offences, Fox News Latino reports. Andrés Sepúlveda received the harsh sentence even after he admitted snooping on both sides during government negotiations with the Revolutionary Armed Forces …

    More than meets the eye

    I was a bit confused by this story, so I googled around and found some deeper context.

    Looks to me like this Santos guy is trying to pull an Obama by sucking up to the FARC guerrillas, and arranged a 'scandal' to be pinned on Uribe and his party. Uribe is the guy that managed to pull the country out of the FARC-generated violence cycle after decades of gory attacks and kidnappings.

    Note how the 'peace talks' are being held in Cuba, home of Democracy and Freedom.

    Don't know what the real truth is about the charges, but I'd side with the guy who stopped the killling over any number of craven Obama-wanna-bees.

      @Big John

      Its nowhere near as simple as that... You need to read about Uribe's ties to paramilitary groups, which continue to carry out indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population. I'm no fan of either politician, but we need 'peace to trump' justice so that precious resources can be freed up to focus on more pressing issues like crime-fuelled inequality... Overall, this is a very complex issue...

        > "You need to read about Uribe's ties to paramilitary groups..."

        Okay, so show me the evidence of Uribe's "ties" to these groups. Or Is he tied to them merely by sharing their (stated) goals? And exactly what would Uribe gain by sponsoring "indiscriminate" attacks on civilians? Wouldn't that alienate his friends too?

        I'm ready to entertain any objective facts, but forgive me if I look askance at the 'ties' charge, an evergreen political accusation if ever there was one.

        One more thing; When a democratically elected government appeases an armed, active insurrection it's called "surrender," not "peace."

          Well, here's a 10 sec search using DuckduckGo... While the following links are damning, I get the impression your mind is closed to the truth :-

            Comrade, running dog capitalists like myself are notoriously hard to convince. I'm afraid you will need more than just the Workers World and Yahoo News. Perhaps a re-education camp?

            One more thing. You might want to actually read the Fox News report on Uribe in your list above. It doesn't denounce or charge Uribe like your marxist sources do. Indeed, the report points out how politically-motivated the charges really are.

            Just thought you ought to know. ;-)
