back to article Mr FlashRay's QUIT: Brian Pawlowski joins flashy upstart Pure Storage

Pure Storage has pulled off the storage recruitment coup of the year and hired Mr FlashRay, NetApp SVP Brian Pawlowski. News broke on March 19 of Pawlowski’s departure, after 20 years at NetApp, with a business networking profile in his name saying he was becoming a VP at a new venture. According to The Register's sources, …

don't need him to show flashray failed

Just have to look at the product. Netapp should be incredibly embarrassed with that product. Seems like they announced it a good year or two too early. (and no, marking it as "controlled deployment" isn't an excuse, control it all you want, keep that kind of shit under total NDA don't tell the public until it's ready)

    Hmmm!

If Flashray failed then why would you recruit the guy that led development?

Also, David Capital Partners per Mr. Mellor's recent tweet said Pure will be rearchitecting

I'd say hiring him is a positive vote that Flashray have done something right.

I agree. Flashray is not a bad product (in theory). Unfortunately, Netapp are incapable of comprehending that so have been starving it to death.

FlashRay was a disaster for NetApp...

FlashRay was a disaster for NetApp which begs the question, was Pawlowski fired or did he quit? Either way, it's interesting that Pure is picking at the carcass of NetApp.

Maybe he can do for Pure what he did for FlashRay?

Nice work. Promise a product in 18 months, and then 18 months after that, nothing. Congrats Pure.

    Teams not individuals

Individuals don’t build great products, teams do.
