Hardcore – real name, Paul Little – had planned to win back the grabbed domain. "I'm gonna take it back! It's about damn time if you ask me," he told adult industry magazine …

    Interesting precedent

So if wikileaks was convicted of something in the US the govt could seize the domain?

Or Greenpeace or Al-Jazeera, or eatwisconsincheese, any other group that are "a threat to democracy"

I'm guessing it's a question of jurisdiction. If it's not registered in the States, they might have a tough time getting the domain. Unless of course it's registered in the "very friendly" country.

Any com/net/org domains have proven vulnerable to USG seizure. Team Amerika Wurld Pulice.

      Or eatwisconsincheese

Is likely to be seized, cheese is illegal in most US States and must be substituted with plastic.

I seem to recall a couple of foreign (to the US) gambling site domains being seized

      search for "civil forfeiture"

And then try: civil forfeiture cash to buy a car . Bonus points if you find John Oliver's coverage. What a clusterfuck.

Why the US government decided not to profit from its property is uncertain, although it's not hard to hazard a guess.

If I'm feeling charitable I'd guess that they decided that publically auctioning off a porn domain would look bad, but I'm just as likely to assume they forgot.

It is equally hard to guess why Paul Little didn't use his real name for porn.

    Why didn't they...

re-use it for e-tendering on public building foundations?

    Only $10,000

No wonder the Justice department just let it go. It'd probably cost twice that in labor to fill out the forms to receive the applications for consideration of intention to potentially perform an auction.
