Would a DDoS only affect PS4owners? Mrs Coat was using her PS3 all over the holiday period and there was only one occasion when she couldn't log in. Maybe an hour or two at the most.

That was (sort of) my thinking - changing a setting that has presumably been the same through numerous resets, reboots etc is 99.99% likely to be either (a) desperation or (b) distraction except for the occasions when (c) someone made a change on the server and didn't think it through and there are no convenient scapegoats.
PSN has been working all week for me. I wonder if these people have malware and are part of the DDOS botnet, and therefore have their IP blocked? (there are plenty of freetards here that keep crying about Cinavia that are likely to have their PC's crammed with malware).
I would bet they are either knowingly, or unknowingly part of the DDOS....
