back to article Hans Neij of Pirate Bay arrested in Thailand

Another Pirate Bay co-founder has been arrested, this time in Thailand. According to BBC News and other outlets, Hans Fredrik Lennart Neij (TiAMO) was trying to cross into Thailand from Laos when he was collared by Thai police. Neij, along with Peter Sunde and Carl Lundström, was sentenced in 2009 and in a 2010 appeal had his …

    It's all good

They can run but they can't hide forever. Prison will make a real man out of this crim. With any luck he'll spend a few extra years for jumping bail.

Crime does not have a universally accepted definition. In this case one can argue that an "offense" was committed, but against who? I certainly don't feel like I was offended, and neither was the society that I live in. Perhaps you're talking about some other special interest group?

THAT AC was probably a MAFIAA shill.

I have been wondering for some time as to what an appropriate 'punishment' for members of the MAFIAA should get in the event they ever get caught breaking the law.

In the US of A, one group that comes to mind for interesting punishment would be the principals behind Prenda Law. (In case you are curious: http://www.popehat.com/tag/prenda-law/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prenda_Law )

IIRC, you too in Blighty have your own bunch of scoundrels, but their name escapes me at this time.

I'd argue that if you're on the run with an international arrest warrant issued for you then, if you've been hiding successfully for 2 years, crossing international borders is probably not a wise move.

Nice to know they are catching violent criminals like Hans Neij while misunderstood victims like Roman Polanski are still openly running around Europe making movies.

Hans also has a wife and kids back in Laos.

Hmm, 17 months in detention for a transgression that the court valued at 6 months. Welcome to Scandinavia. I thought it was just Denmark (absolutely the worst place in the world for time in prison awaiting trial) that was like this, apparently Sweden also.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap

I won't loose a bit of sleep over these criminals in prison. For years they claimed they were above the law and now they find out they were wrong. The longer they stay in prison the better for society.

Yes, society will reap incalculable benefits from keeping filesharing kingpins behind bars.

It's got nothing to do with the filesharing. AC's post was in response to Philip questioning why the unnamed party spent 17 months in prison for a crime judged worth 6 months. 11 months inside for no crime effectively.
