back to article China hacked US Army transport orgs TWENTY TIMES in ONE YEAR

Sophisticated Beijing-backed hackers raided civilian organisations responsible for the movements of US troops and equipment 20 times in one year of which only two were detected by the responsible agency, an audit report has found. Contractors underneath the US Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) agency were hacked a total of 50 …

Because the americans would never dream of trying to gain unauthorised access to another country's military networks!

Don't you know? The NSA only hack peoples computers/Merkels phone for security reasons. So basically they're breaking in to your stuff to protect you from other people breaking in to your stuff.

See, makes sense! I for one welcome our new American WarOverlords.

        Yes, I see the light.

It's not the hacking that's wrong - it's the getting caught.

If I had the time and money

If that happened to me and if I had the resources to do something about it, I'd be tempted to keep quiet about it and set up a virtual 'shadow' system into which the external hacks were diverted. The shadow system would contain essentially all the information of the real system, except for truly secret info. Then, when the time came, I'd modify the contents of the shadow system in such a way that the hacked data would mess up the intelligence-led operations of anyone who tried to use it.

So THAT'S how they do it....

I always wondered how all the cheap stuff on Amazon etc from China seems so ridiculously cheap given the shipping etc - they get the Yanks to ship it!

As head of the ARMED services committee I'm shocked to find aggression going on here.

      Your tanks monsieur

I'm sure this is just to save money. It's cheaper to let China find vulnerabilities in the system then hire a specialist. We have to pay for 'bamacare somehow ;) *cough*

It's a bit like that - preventative medicine saves a fortune but those making a mint out of fixing issues would say otherwise.

Very true, any concerns I have with it are to do with the fact it doesn't go far enough. I was just having a little fun with the whole Fox blames X on Obama care thing :)

FBI and Department of Defence knew but did not tell the Pentagon of nine separate intrusions of TRANSCOM contractors.

So thirteen years after 9/11 we're back to the same fundamental problem that caused 9/11. Who'da thunk?

Peacetime intrusions into defense contractors networks?

"These peacetime intrusions into the networks of key defense contractors are more evidence of China's aggressive actions in cyberspace"

How about not exposing your defense networks to the Internet?

Re: Peacetime intrusions into defense contractors networks?

It says the vendors' systems were hacked, not the defense networks. Still it is valuable intelligence information.
