back to article Time-rich Brit boffin demos DIY crazytech wolverine talons

Youtube Video Perhaps you thought the bits of cardboard you meticulously painted metallic grey and sellotaped to your hands were an awesome Wolverine costume last Halloween. If you did, you lacked the sheer naked ambition, engineering knowhow and oodles of time available to one Colin Furze, who has made his very own fully …

There's a man who'll end up stabbing himself one day.

    1. Don Jefe

Probably, but sooner or later the gods of Engineering must have their sacrifice or you will be allowed no further progress. I miss my pinky sometimes, but not nearly as much as I would have missed all the things I did before, and after, the tithe was paid. I'm 99.9% certain this guy feels the same.

Possibly, though I suspect the maniacal laughter will continue without missing a beat.

Cameron, do one good thing in your career and appoint this guy Engineering Czar or something.

Speaking of mum, didn't she ever tell him not to run with knives?

Although I wouldn't want to encounter him in a dark alley, well done!

      Re: steel claws

Well, Unobtanium is still 20 million a Kilo, so steel will have to do for your average garden shed boffinry.

Now, the question is: how long before he gets recruited for el Reg's SPB?

He would be quite the asset.

Shame these are already illegal under UK law. (Just like everything else! )

    1. Don Jefe

If Man waited on approval before taking action this post would be published via smoke signal or some manner of primitive semaphore instead of the Web.

Regardless, I would argue they are either artwork or tools for work. Have you ever seen finger knives for warehouse workers? I know those are completely legal in the UK, and those are nasty, nasty things that could be used to kill someone (or open boxes) just as easily, and far messier, than these things.

    2. MrXavia

      How so?

I know of no law that specifically mentions the creation of retractable metal claws as a criminal offence?

The banned weapons laws are very specific, and even then its usually bans on sales/imports not possession/manufacture last time I checked.

Although walking down the street with it would very likely get you arrested, but then again you can be arrested for carrying a walking stick if the police had reason to believe you intended to use it as a weapon...

    Boffin

According to his website, he's originally a plumber by trade, rather than a common or garden boffin. I reckon I'd let him do the plumbing at my house, but I'd check the taps *very* carefully before turning them on. Just in case.

    1. Tweetiepooh

      Taps nothing,

I'd check that new toilet (and/or bidet) much more thoroughly.

For Lotus F1 Team the winning edge starts with the cloud powered by Microsoft Dynamics...

blah blah blah blah! I am so sick of hearing those words before EVERY Youtube clip linked to from the Register.

    1. Anonymous Custard Silver badge

Re: For Lotus F1 Team the winning edge starts with the cloud powered by Microsoft Dynamics...

Given how badly they are doing this season (4 points out of 4 races so far, for an 8th place in Spain, and half of those due to a disqualification of someone else) I wonder if there's someone else in Redmond that's nervously looking out for knives. So seems altogether appropriate for this article topic, and maybe an opportunity for our featured chap.

If it gets any worse the "winning edge" part may become false advertising. Although any comparisons between the fortunes of the advertiser and advertisee are strictly your own ;)
