back to article Russia 'incompatible with the internet', cries web CEO 'axed by Putin'

Tech mogul Pavel Durov – dubbed Russia's "Mark Zuckerberg" for creating a Facebook-a-like website – has said he will never return home until corruption is quashed in his country. Durov was CEO of VKontakte, an online social network, but fled the Putin-led nation after allegedly spending months resisting Russia's Federal …

here's a Ukrainian website [](oops very NSFW) that claims that Google, Microsoft & Yahoo are deliberately blocking specifically Japanese women from social media/dating websites.

Most people that I know in former-soviets use Odnaklassniki (Ru-Friends Reunited) rather than VKontakte, Putin even claimed recently that the Russian search engine Yandex was forced on-launch to host in EU rather than Russia by some outrageously fascist imperialist organisation...

I gather that those people with an accurate world view are not surprised by any nation banning anything on Tim'sWeb

I agree the wife uses Odnaklassniki but even her posts get regularly deleted if she's supportive of Ukraine.

any criticism of ukrainian "government" gets deleted from their sites and Facebook accounts. "govt" "offenders" get blocked permanently.

Readers may or may not know that anyone can donate the same amount to the island's sweetest industry and and gain the right to live on the sunkissed shores.

This is not uncommon, you qualify for a US green card if you invest $1,000,000 in a US business and create 10 jobs - or half that in a "targeted employment area".

So the smarmy comment should be "St Kitts & Nevis - only half the price of bribing the US government".

    A country run by criminals

And it just keeps on getting worse.

Define criminals because that could apply to the average US businessman too

      1. Pascal Monett Silver badge

Define "average US businessman" then, 'cause I know a few and they're very decent fellows.

But I'm guessing you're not counting Mom & Pop discount stores as "businessmen".

cos your got caught out, the louder someone shouts about not doing something / other people doing it, the more they have done it as well.

No living in the States for him then

Until the Supremes become elected positions instead of political Presidential appointments, The education system stop becoming increasingly privatised and there is a degree of fair social and health care.

    1. Dan Paul

Re: No living in the States for him then (Or You for that matter)

      Are you kidding me?????

"Fair degree of social and health care" Don't you read? TV too difficult to use?

We have too much social and health care. We spend too much on slouchy layabouts like you in the USA. The "education system" (read indoctrination system) NEEDS to become privatised to get RID of your kind (chavs). Maybe they could beat it out of you. Most Eurocounties are reversing the dole.

You must wish for "good ole socialism". I wish people like you would just pick up and go to Europe (specifcally France or Greece) where you belong.

All the Judges (nationwide) OTHER than the Supremes are elected. The reason the Supremes are appointed is because they serve for LIFE. They are intended to judge the way the President wants. Thank god they are more conservative than liberal or you'd be toast already.

Look at what weak "namby pamby" Presidency is getting us from Putin right now.

Re: All the Judges (nationwide) OTHER than the Supremes are elected.

Dan Paul, this is not true. All Federal judges (Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals, District Courts, as well as miscellaneous others such as bankruptcy courts, the Tax Court, &c.) are appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The judges on the Courts of Appeals (there are at least 150 of them) also have lifetime tenure. There are ten states which have governors who appoint state judges with the consent of at least one chamber of the state legislature, and in four of these ten states, the state judges have lifetime tenure. In Virginia and South Carolina, it is the legislature rather than citizens of the state that elects state judges. Many states use a hybrid model which started in Missouri, in which a commission draws up a list of candidates, from which a governor appoints one, and at the next election the voters have a chance to eject the new judge from office; if the voters approve of the judge, he gets to serve out the remainder of his term.

      2. Steven Roper

        @ Dan Paul

And I wish people like you would pack up and move to somewhere like Somalia or Sudan. No laws or government there, it's all dog-eat-dog and devil take the weakest, just the way you like it. You're free to exploit others for your own gain, engage in social darwinism, and kill anybody you don't like. You can even staff your factories with slave labour, if you so wish. Saves having to pay all those lazy good-for-nothing lower-class plebeians, eh?

Meanwhile, those of us who understand the most basic principles of civilisation and respect for others, would like to continue living in the countries that have prospered under those principles, in more fair and equitable conditions, free from the greed and selfishness of bigots like you.

Re: No living in the States for him then (Or You for that matter)

There you go Dan, something to be proud of!

I have lived in the States (2 years, I liked it)

I worked 10 hour days 6 days a week, now I live in Spain though I'm a Brit, I pay my own medical insurance and expect nothing from anyone but that does not mean that I don't have a social conscience and care about the people around me whether I know them or not.

The ability to form society is one of the things that makes humans successful on an evolutionary scale.

From your post though I doubt you agree with evolution and I expect your notion of social conscience is telling a post traumatic, Vietnam Vet with no legs and a cup in front of him on the street to 'Get A Job! '.

Next time you manage to get your head out of your arse forget patriotism for a minute and have a really good objective look at the land of free and try to turn off the TV and read some real information about the world you live in. An alternative would be to apply for abdominal fenestration then you can keep your head up your arse and still have some small idea of what is genuinely going on around you.

        Have a nice day!

Bootnote: You clearly don't know what a chav is but the part of the UK I am from added to my age group and calling me a name like that will get you some of the UK's FREE ER care.

Re: No living in the States for him then (Or You for that matter) @ Dan Paul

Just to back up what others have said - you don't deserve to live in a decent country with real people. There are plenty of places, listed by another poster, where your psychopathy can be put to good use. You need to remember that Robert Heinlein was writing fiction, not handbooks for sociopaths.

For the record, I think the tax rate in the UK is too low, there is inadequate social provision, and everyone who is a citizen* should be given a minimum income by the government. People not yet citizens should have an entitlement too. Oh, yes - fuck the idea of immigration curbs.

Oh, and you have no idea what a chav is.

*I know - we aren't really citizens, but that should change too.

          1. Dan Paul

Re: No living in the States for him then (Or You for that matter) @ Dan Paul

            @Intractable Potsherd -

I DO know what chav is and we have plenty of them here too, just slightly different. Evolution is proven science, I am NOT a right to lifer-holy roller. Robert Heinlein actually wrote some pretty damn good science fiction; but you OBVIOUSLY haven't read any of the good stuff, probably because you are an idiot and unable to understand it or how to read; since the public education system obviously failed you so glaringly. You are completely wrong in agreeing with giving away everything to people who don't/won't work, who would rather live off the dole than take any initiative of their own and get a job. The largest part of them should just be forced into working or let them suffer the pains of natural selection.

I believe (like Heinlein) that morons like you should not be able to vote in any election or be considered a "citizen" until you own property and have been gainfully employed for 5 years continuously. Then maybe I would not have such ridiculous taxes that only exist to pay for the lazy likes of you unproductive wastes of breath and time spent typing.

Fuck all you pretentious, lazy, self centered, hypocritical, idiots, may your road rise up to grind you into a billion pieces on your way to hell!
