Just 10 professionally run malware-making workshops in Russia are responsible for 30 per cent of the Trojans, spyware and other nasties infecting smartphones globally. That's according to a study by mobile security outfit Lookout. These underground crime labs churn out DIY kits ideal for scriptkiddies looking to make a fast …

    Same old story

Use a shady looking 3rd party app store.

Install app asking for excessive permissions.

    Get burned.

      Re: Same old story

"These affiliates customise their copy of the malware to make it look like the latest Angry Birds or Skype utility, for example. Then they use social networks, such as Twitter, to draw people into downloading the booby-trapped software."

      Agreed totally.

But, these people truely deserve to get burned. And burned badly!

No one in their right mind would think it acceptable to drive a car without learning how to drive, yet they use tech without any knowledge or even the nouse to go look for information.

Serves them right. The stupid need to stick to Apple products. Their fisher price OS is perfect for the thoughtless.

      You forgot the last paragraph:

"We are not going to tell you which apps we found to be infected! So, be afraid! And install our Lookout app today! Make sure you grant Lookout all the permissions it wants! And when it comes to permissions, Lookout is as greedy as a stripper on crack! So install Lookout today!"

    What's going on?

More Android malware FUD, but no reporting of the critical Apple malware crisis where it's trivial to hide malware in App store apps that can do untold nastiness????

Quite clearly the iOS sandbox is actually made of sand.

All that intelligence, all that effort

And all that for illegal easy money.

Ah, the dark side is indeed powerful.

I wonder what all those minds could accomplish if they attempted to tackle a problem that could actually be useful to society ?

But enough daydreaming, that'll never happen.
