Who uses fast Enterprise Drives Anymore?

It's amazing what technology can do, but even spinning disks at 100,000 RPM doesn't get near to SSD speed. It's like putting a 6 litre engine in your Ford Focus, and entering it in an F1 race. It just isn't going to be a close race.

Who is going to use these drives?

      Many people use it.

It is expensive, slow and somewhat reliable.. but hey, it's on sale and cheaper than SSD! So let's waste money and power!

Why bother with solid-state "drives" when you can just plug in 3.2 terabytes (4.0Tb raw) on a single PCIe card? Really, what's the point?

Perhaps the data centers want the storage without the huge price of SSD, and they don't need ultimate speed for the application.

But why pay $300 for a fast 1TB drive when you can get 2TB for $60?

Backup and archiving are streaming processes. Do the math. Each "slow" drive streams at 110MBPS and you can get 5 for the price of 1, so that's 500MBPS total. The "fast" drive streams at 180MBPS. And yo can RAID the 5 drives and still be 2x the speed!
