    People have long memories of past purchases, and really don't want last year's CPU with last century's screen resolution.

    I do wonder, too, if customers being ripped off for printer ink does the brand any good.

      Also, anyone with experience of recent HP printers would have doubts about the reliability and performance of any HP product. They have an awful lot of new competition in the non-laser market from Memjet, Xerox, Epson, Ricoh and doubtless others, and their reaction is to produce printers with pointless cheap touchscreens.

    That would explain why HP allow stupid discounts on the Smart Portal, I always get 50%+ on some stuff.

    Not hard to see why HP are losing if you sell it...

    I'll tell you why HP are losing sales...

    Because they've dropped quality. We used to sell a LOT of HP stuff, but then they started using custom power supplies, giving absolutely ZERO way to expand (not even a second SATA drive or 2nd memory slot) and other ridiculous changes.

    Oh and reliability has fallen off a cliff too.

    ...and now we don't sell HP. Hero to Zero.

    In our office...

    Our experience as a small business with HP is as follows:

    Our professional HP A3 inkjet printer packed up after a few years, but not before pissing off everyone in the office with its ridiculously bloated driver software, which included an utterly pointless 'device management centre', constant patches and alerts every time the paper or ink ran out, or pretty much anytime it did anything, come to think of it. Hundreds of megabytes of absolute shite.

    We replaced it with an Epson.

    Our edit suite was based around an HP workstation, who's motherboard started flaking out after a few years, not seeing all the ram and generally being shit just when you're trying to get a job out. New proprietary CPU heat sink? That'll be £100.

    Recently we needed to replace our file server, we looked at the options and HP was way behind the times, so we went with Dell.
