Disney has made good on its promise to farm out future Star Wars games to an outside developer after scrapping LucasArts - and picked much-loved EA. Electronic Arts will be able to build on its Jedi-inspired online multiplayer game Star Wars: The Old Republic now that the two entertainment giants have signed a multi-year …
That's because you're reading other things in "believer" than he actually meant. He didn't mean a true believer in the sense that one should try and keep true to the story as it was laid out in the first original 3 movies. No, I think he's a true believer that the franchise as a whole still has enough spunk in it left to generate a nice steady revenue.
Because "true believer" is a term that Stan Lee dreamed up to refer to the readers of his comics during his time as editor-in-chief at Marvel. So as a "true believer", he's just making do with whatever crap he can get his hands on until such time as he manages to nab the Spiderman license.
"Now, we need somebody to take over the role of George Lucas, lets list out a few things he brought"
Great initial films
Gradually goes downhill
Turns into a pile of crap that shits on the original
JarJarBinx
Now who can best match this set of qualities, well EA seems to fit the bill perfectly, promise a great game, deliver something bad which gradually gets worse, and then start releasing sequals about as well thought out as jarjar. Perfect.
Honestly can't wait to see EA butcher another franchise I loved.
Paris because she could probably do a better job of making games than EA
..... even google EA to see how truly moronic and useless they are? Ordinary plebs like us would be sacked for gross misconduct for the decisions they have made since obtaining the franchise.
What next? Shutting down ILM and farming the work out to Derek who is good at flash animation?
if they hired George Lucas to script and direct whole the game.
You are trolling, right?
Cos George had to contend with a lot of other folk when the first 3 films came out... lots of strong willed and clever staff and actors, who often pushed things in directions he didn't like at all.
Fast forward a few decades to when he's jolly rich and all powerful and gets to do what he likes, with his vision unimpeded by the plebs. We get the prequel trilogy, and shortly thereafter the 'retroactively shat-upon' editions of the original set.
EA working with Lucas on a new game would be pretty much the nadir of the whole franchise.
If they want a real winner, they should just do a team fortress rip off
scout = Jedi (seriously, just give them a lightsaber)
soldier = Storm Trooper
pyro = Boba Fett (or jango)
demo = Princess Leia
heavy = Wookie
engineer = R2 unit
medic = C3P0
sniper = Han Solo
spy = Lando
You know it makes sense.
Just when I'd decided my gaming days were over, and my old PC needs drastic re-building to be able to play anything modern. Then would be the time that another TIE Fighter game would turn up, and I'd be forced to spend good money on an upgrade / new PC, to play it.
I wasted many, many hours of my life on that game. And a few more on X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter later on.
but BIOWare are in the mix and they are mostly responsible for SWToR which is a phenomenal immersive Star Wars experience. If they do games of that quality with EA then we have some good stuff to look forward to.
and if anyone from EA is perusing this pithy forum then I want an X-Wing simulator. Pay attention: Every switch, button and knob will be simulated. I want cold and dark startup from Tattooine. nothing less will do.
k, thanks, bye.

Paris in that metal bikini please.
Can't help feeling that this is pure brand-exploitation. Surely SW hit saturation point with consumers long ago? We live in different times now, besides Lucas butchered his own baby with a thousand cuts.... Movies have become so lame of late, that I now think the original Star Wars was probably a fluke. The first Matrix movie was a fluke, hence why the two sequels were a mess. But the original SW was a lucky alignment of many things that came together perfectly. But hey they'll probably cast someone like Tom Cruise in the SW franchise reboot, and he'll bring in a billion $ every reboot proving me wrong...!
"...Movies have become so lame of late, that I now think the original Star Wars was probably a fluke. The first Matrix movie was a fluke, hence why the two sequels were a mess..."
All sequels are shit because anyone writing a film script is going to put all their best ideas into the original story-line in order to try and get someone to buy it. No-one desperately trying to get a studio interested in their idea is going to hold back some of the 'good stuff', just on the off-chance that some day, years down the road, they might be asked to come up with a sequel.
First part of this message will be directed at Disney:
You were the chosen one. It was said that you'd destroy the shit, not deal with them. Bring balance to the franchise, not leave it with darkness.
Second part of this message is directed at EA:
Execute Order 66? At least have fun dragging Star Wars through the mud.
Final note to anyone else reading this:
I realise I've used quotes from the prequels in the above. This is done as a indication that I believe those films will be shown to be of higher quality than anything EA can get out of the Star Wars franchise.
Am I the only one who can’t read half of this story because an advert is cutting out the right hand side text? This isn’t the first time this has happened to me on this site.
Flashing ads to get you attention are one thing.
Ads that play sound and music having you scramble around to see where it’s coming from are bad enough.
But seriously, an ad that makes it impossible to read the content of the page with no button to minimize or remove?
To read this story I had to go back to the homepage three times before the offending ad was replaced by a smaller one that didn’t cover the text.
In the words of Jean Luc Picard, “What the f*** is this s***?”

I hope they have the good sence to make a space combat sim like the old X-Wing Series, they could even novels as a starting point, e.g. a first game based on X-Wing Rogue Squadron through to The Bacta War, a second based on the Thrawn trilogy and so on. this would stop them from messing it up with noncensical plots.
This could be a sucessfull idea if done correctly, however I doubt EA would be able to resist swapping out the "simulation aspects" in favor of arcade shooter idiocy.
Nooo we want more of the excellent TIE fighter type games "Eat lasers and die rebel scum"
Sadly EA will give us something along the lines of the Ewok family christmas special complete with DRM and alway on internet connected to single 486 authetication server on 28k dialup in EA's basement........
No, theres only one thing worse than that and it's what they will choose. That's using a 'cloud' based authentication \ drm system which will promptly fail repeatedly and be unable to cope with the demand because we all know the major selling points of the cloud aren't its redundancy and scaleability ;-) The sad thing is it's not usually the underlying technology but rather the implementation.
"Like hundreds of millions of people, I am a true believer – someone who can’t get enough of the story, the culture, and the ethos of Star Wars," EA Labels president Frank Gibeau gushed. "And I'm glad nobody has ever realized that I got sick to death of playing SimCity years and years ago..."
"Like hundreds of millions of people, I am a true believer – someone who can’t get enough of the story [of how George Lucas managed to amass a huge fortune marketing crap kids toys from b-grade movies], the culture [that encourages parents to buy everything their children ask for and adults to collect and never use kids' toys], and the ethos [of suing the pants off of anyone who tries to use something remotely resembling one's IP] of Star Wars," EA Labels president Frank Gibeau gushed.
Take your pick of the below....
1) I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if a billion video game fans suddenly cried out, and were then silenced....
2) DRM! Paid patching! Ingame advertising! The Dark Side are those!!
3) EA headquarters!--you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villiany.....
4) Luke: Quick!, the game is heading for that small moon! Obi-wan: That's no moon, that's a price tag....
5) EA: That'll be 25,000--up front. Video game fan: 25,000!!??! I could develop the game for that!! EA: Yeah kid, but could you license it?
It's Star Wars. Seriously, you didn't expect anything good to come out of that franchise anyway, did you?
When Disney bought it, I thought they'd be hard pressed to screw it up any more than Lucas already has.
So clearly they decided to get some expert help. I look forward to seeing the release, and subsequent panning, of six new clones of Command & Conquer with skins to match each movie.
I cannot brag that I have tried every Star Wars game out there, and other sci-fi world based games. But as I see it hero based worlds like Star Wars is very poorly suited for multiplayer games, at least massive multiplayer. The trick for a good massive multiplayer universe is a place were being the average Joe is exiting. A universe were the exiting thing is to be the hero, then it will be a bit too many heroes in the world.
But then again, quite a lot of the massive multiplayer games is it just in name. They are really parallel solo player games. You do the quests that everybody else have done and nobody pauses to say "Listen lady, I just saw that guy over there return it, and I have it from good authority that half a million other people has also retrived your purse, so no, I will not retrieve your stinking purse." There are exceptions of course, but they are rare.
they had to go with EA? the company renowned for releasing unfinished games?
They reached a new low for me when a friend of mine bought Tiger Woods 14. there are courses in the main game that aren't included, you have to get them as DLC. the game is riddled with errors. Many errors are so obvious, i'm left wondering if they do any testing or quality assurance on their games.
I'm trying to avoid their games like the plague, EA is nothing like the beautiful company called Electronic Arts back in the 80's
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I had though that given the quality (and lack there of) of the last (first?) three movies that the big Mouse actually had a chance at a winner here. The fact that they willingly would team up with at company of such terrible ethic as EA leads me to revise my previous thoughts. Disney can die in a fire with EA, its the humane thing to do.
Seriously Reg, I am having a really crappy time at work due to management and every morning is a grind.
And the first article I read is that the DRM peddling menace that is EA (show me the money or else) Origin creating EULA joke of a software house that is single handedly ruining gaming, will now handle the star wars franchise.
What next? A lesson in seal pup clubbing?
