Rebuttal?
Why bother rebutting the guy if the original article was correct? Seems kind of petty and is just giving them free advertisement. Or is that the idea?
Nimbus Data CEO Tom Isakovich disagreed with parts of our story about his firm's HALO software upgrade. "Your article today is factually incorrect," he wrote, before bringing up perceived weaknesses in the flash array from rival Pure Storage. Pure's CEO Scott Dietzen, contacted for comment, naturally took issue with much of …
Nimbus quotes raw capacity (actual flash), usable capacity (available space after flash management/spares), and possible capacity (after deduplication). This is straightforward and honest. Pure continues to try to mislead customers by saying "100 TB" when this is clearly a post-dedupe value and their own website says only two 5.5 TB shelves per system.
As for not supporting NFS, not supporting CIFS, not supporting scale-out, and not supporting Replication, perhaps Pure's CEO should consider that he said he was shipping all these features in an article on The Register just a few days ago. Now he says he's not targeting those markets. Hmmm....
Any reason for TheRegister's snide editorial remarks against Nimbus when it is Pure attempting to mislead your readers?
Maybe because Isakovich sounds like a petulant child. I expect the "Love Your Storage" campaign might be encouraging prospective customers to buy, rather than spending more time evaluating competing products. If you read the March 25 article carefully you'll see that Dietzen specifically states that Pure doesn't offer replication, and various other areas are works in progress. As a non-specialist looking at their website, it seems to me that the applications they're selling right now are all about server optimisation, not distributed data. Looking at the Nimbus site it seems they do similar stuff, and also SAN/NAS - I wonder what those new employees at Pure are going to be working on.
"Nimbus Data has over 40 partners and three distributors in the UK alone, all of which aligned with Nimbus Data in a mere six months "
3 disti and 40 reseller channels in the UK alone ?
I'll forget signing up with them and will look for vendors that AREN'T spreading themselves thin - can you imagine trying to do deal registration against all that lot ?
He puts Pure to the fire for not having certain features listed on website, when Nimbus lists feature on the website that dont exist!! We keep hearing we will get Snapshots, Dedupe, Replication etc "next quarter" every quarter.... Okay, you are having some short-term success in J Europe, but what about the USA? When CEO sends you quotes and answers tech support calls, something is amiss...
