back to article Japanese firm offers 4-tonne GIANT MECHs for just $1.3m

Kogoro Kurata, Japanese maker of strange machines, is selling ride-on mechanical monsters starting at £844,000, but you'll need to pay extra for the weapons and cup holder. The Kuratas robot weighs in at 4 tonnes, and is 4 metres (13 feet) tall, so the pilot straps in at the head, ready to stride across the most desolate …

No! Not you! You'll just sit there grinning inanely from the moment you sit down.

Not a good idea with smile activated guns!

Damn, too late now to add it to this year's xmas list. Santa better get his wide load stickers ready for next year though.

    When there's a walker!

      Re: Call me back...

Yes, I was mildly disappointed too.

It would be ok to ride on wheels if it *transformed* into (and out of) a vehicle. A rolling humanoid shape is kind of daft. That said, I wouldn't mind having a go at one :)

Clan variant of a Madcat MKII and I'd sell the house, the wife and my son to purchase one.

I'm sure it doesn't stand a chance against the RX-78.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

    This makes me so happy

The Japs seem quite determined to make their mechanized future a reality. I love seeing them tackle all the engineering feats needed to make this happen.

      Re: Step 1. Acquire mech.

step 4: charge entry into said lot under penalty of 6000 BB's wrecking the paint on your new car. You know from the comfort of office with that 3g connection.

This is what I don't understand; If you can get inside it, why the hell would you not?

  11. pip25

It doesn't even walk, it rolls. Call me back when they have actual legs, and then I may be tempted.

  12. lawndart

    Insufficiently Shadowcat-ish for me.

Needs to run, have jumpjets, lasers and a railgun.

I'll even drop the functioning weapon requirement for the moment if that helps.

  13. Thomas 4

It's a good step in the right direction

It reminds me of the mechs from the Armored Core games. Only the bipedal ones could truly walk, the four legged ones moved in a similar fashion to these.

    Pink Floyd...

If it wasn't for the nips

Being so good at building ships

The yards would still be open on the clyde.

And it can't be much fun for them

    Beneath the rising sun

With all their kids committing suicide.

  15. Beavercheese

    Hot Damn !

    Yes this !

After watching the instructional video with attractive assistant I can just imagine...

    Being in it all day

    Smiling away

    Squirting water rockets

    Happily shooting away

And the mech ain't bad either!

Now all I need is the ability to stick a tail on it, paint it green, pilot it via the internets and play rampage in downtown Tokyo !

Aaiyee - Run fo ror lifes - it Godrirra ! (again)

    But seriously...awesome.

Change the weapons to be rubber balls and water cannons and its a shock n awe Police riot control vehicle

      Dear Japan,

WTF? Again? But please keep it up; I only need another $842,000 for this version.

Although, if i could borrow one for a few days, with working balistic weapons, then I should have enough capital to buy a few more, C.O.D. no questions asked.

    Gotta love...

How in some of the other video's the Kuratas is driving through town and you see some people hardly taking notice to it. They almost seem to think "and there goes the weekly robot, good, now I can cross the street".

Come on Britain. Build one ourselves, start a new series of Robot Wars in a refurbished Roman Colosseum!

    Hey, this could be useful

Get a basic stripped down version with the claw attachment on both arms and balloon wheels and it could be used for logging, construction, demolition, and scrap metal processing. I wonder how much it could actually lift...

Take that bitches at Comic-Con. Who got the best costume now?

    What Power Girl? Again?

  22. Michael Dunn

I do wish people would stop calling these piloted/remote-controlled devices "robots."

It's the same with the series of TV programmes "Robot Wars"

    Robots are self controlled entities.
