back to article Rambus' patent evidence-shredding slices into Hynix DRAM payout

A US judge has ruled that legal attack dog Rambus destroyed evidence prior to its patent lawsuit against SK Hynix - but decided the paper-shredding wasn't a deliberate attempt to derail Hynix's defence. Judge Ronald Whyte reduced the royalties that Hynix owes on memory chips to just "reasonable non-discriminatory" levels. The …

    Rambus. Ugh.

Nearly everyone likes to condemn Apple's patent suits as an egregious abuse of law, but I have always found Rambus to be the real abuser, along with IBM. A borderline criminal organization, as far as I can tell.

IBM ?! You are making me laugh. When was the last time you saw IBM dragging their competitors in courts allover the planet ? Heck, in case you did not know, Apple has dedicated a top lawyer charged specifically with coordinating its numerous patent lawsuits across courts of justice. Not to mention about suing competitors for making beautiful round corners rectangular devices or for displaying rows of square icons, IBM never did that.

      Let's not be silly!

It is not always necessary to initiate court proceedings, as the following story will illustrate:

"July 2011: 'An awkward silence ensued. The blue suits did not even confer among themselves. They just sat there, stonelike. Finally, the chief suit responded. “OK,” he said, “maybe you don’t infringe these seven patents. But we have 10,000 U.S. patents. Do you really want us to go back to Armonk [IBM headquarters in New York] and find seven patents you do infringe? Or do you want to make this easy and just pay us $20 million?” After a modest bit of negotiation, Sun cut IBM a check, and the blue suits went to the next company on their hit list." http://www.osnews.com/story/24987/Microsoft_s_Android_Shakedown_IBM_Did_It_First/

Or consider TurboHercules, if you will.

    300 boxes of documents shredded??

The judge doesn't think 300 BOXES of shredded documents is a problem in this case?? WHEN IS RAMBUS GOING TO DIE, like SCO did?? Now would be a good time for this industry vampire to be put out of it's mysery.

    Is this still rumbling on?

Must be 10 years ago or more I was being flabbergasted by Intel and Rambus trying to cripple PCs with RDRAM and then Rambus claiming it had patented important parts of DDR anyway but just forgot to tell anyone.

Do these things never go away?

So long as the Lawyers get paid, it will forever go on...
