IP5
Geekbench numbers for new IP5 are just in....not only do they outperform the S3, but they do it on TWO cores running at a slower clock.
Apple has apologised to fanbois hit by an iCloud outage, and described the ten-hour downtime as "not acceptable". Access to email accounts was the main casualty when the online storage cloud burst last week. Business owners in particular were peeved when they couldn't pick up their e-correspondence for a working day. At the …
The iYawn5 outperform the S3 - no they don't. But don't let reality get in the way of the RDF.
iCloud went down for 3 days for me a couple of weeks ago. Once again Apple said it was to do with software updates on their servers, very small number of people affected, etc.
Lucky I don't rely on it for anything vital, but why iCloud is actually an improvement on the hopeless and horrible MobileMe, the impossibly dreadful .Mac and the simply unspeakable iTools. You'd have thought they'd have either fixed it by now or taken it out the back and put a bullet through its head.
Having been a member of MobileMe I would never again touch Apple's cloud offering. You have to wonder if Apple truly appreciate how catastrophic any failure of iCloud is when they put it at the centre of iOS in all those very expensive/glossy adverts. I still can't believe that iCloud is limited to only 5Gb of space unless you pay more and it makes you wonder how serious they really are about it.
I spoke to 3 friends with iCloud email accounts and they all suffered from the outage. Taking Apple's 1.1% figure and my (limited correct me if I'm wrong) knowledge of statistics, gives a probability of all 4 of us being affected as over 65 million to one against! Either I am very lucky or someone's telling porkies, you decide :)
You are assuming that the alleged 1.1% of users affected are distributed evenly throughout the world. If the fault affected users in specific geographical locations, then the probability that a sample of 4 people from that area would all be affected would actually be more likely.
It's not really a fail though, all journos make the same mistake with statistics.
"Business owners in particular were peeved"
Any "business owner" who relies on a free email service should just be laughed at ( and i include gmail, hotmail, etc in that)
and to everyone else... its a FREE service FFS, so what if its offline for a few hours in the year.. No one died. Most of us on these forums are in the tech industry... computer/software/connections break. All the time. Fact of life. nothing is 100%. get over it!
ahh, whats the use, no one listens
QUOTE: Any "business owner" who relies on a free email service should just be laughed at ( and i include gmail, hotmail, etc in that)
It's not. I pay for it. This pile of junk costs me the best part of £60 a year. For business purposes it is useless. I stared out with a .mac email address. That head account changed to a .me address. It is now back at a .mac address with the rebranding as icloud. I am unable to send emails from any address ending in .me.
Confused? I know I am. Bizarrely, the migration to icloud meant that I lost online storage … at a time when the 'cloud' normally implies, er, online storage.
GMX offers me a mail aggregator and a host of other featues for free. Not least among those features is reliability.
Time was that I thought I needed a mac account, but the reality is that no-one does. Don't even talk to me about services outages, let alone how you contact apple.
It's just a pity that the specialist mac press lets them get away with it.
And to make matters worse for YOU, it's not even using your GB/European 4G standard. No wonder you are all so upset! LOL
It's all about the user experience, and iPhone brings the best. No question, every generation. And this one, like all others before it, will set new records and sell even more than any of the previous models. Android is FAILING BADLY. Win Phone v8 or whatever will do a face plant, no normal person on the planet will even CARE that it is out. The 'competition' as weak as it is, are but mere shadows of the iPhone. Copying after it like Windows copied Mac. Boldly copying, and pretending it's original WON'T CUT IT. No wonder the tech geeks hate Apple so.
You know Windows is next to fall. Win 8 will be a tragedy of Vista proportions. And they DESERVE it.
Your site is pathetic.
Heh heh heh!
Boy, did that Apple fanboi nut step into the wrong community!
Its fair to say especially with Apple's recent keynote, I'll not own another iPhone for the foreseeable future (Android serves me well for now) and NEVER a Macintosh or MacBook, just not for me.
However I love my iPad 3 what with its lovely screen and super silky UI (mostly). Nobody can deny it's great for what it's been designed to actually do.
So why does it seem that nobody seems able to just pick out the kit they find great, from whatever vendor, be brutally honest with themselves about it, ensuring you dont suffer from brand bigotry, MS fanbois included, and enjoy it!?
Lets face it, they're only different branded products serving a whole variety of tastes, they all pretty much do the same thing in different ways! You owe it to yourselves to enjoy what you find great about the devices without unfounded prejudice or some vapid sense of fashion for one or another brand.
Try out EVERYTHING, if YOU don't like it, fair enuff but don't fall into any brand 'camp' like everybody seems to nowadays.
Basically, get over it!

Wow.
What's the matter? Did your Mum not feed you this morning?
Just remember not to throw your feces at her when she comes home from work, or she might not bring any dinner down to the basement either.
