    I have a bridge to sell you....

    VCE is completely proprietary. You can run any tech combo you want, as long as what you want is Cisco, VMware, EMC and BMC. It provides not application level integration or advantages. Just one giant lock-in with only minor benefits which are far outweighed by the lack of flexibility.

      Actually, with a Vblock you can use any of VCE's management & orchestration from partners: BMC CLM, CA PCA, etc. etc. as well as the stacks from EMC, Cisco, and VMware i.e. ITO, CIAC, vCD, etc. etc.

      Also, you can't just "run any tech combo you want" because a Vblock is a product that was pre-engineered, pre-validated, and pre-tested both physically and logically.

      Lastly, the "application level integration" and "advantages" when using a Vblock are why customers choose Vblock in the first place.

    The storage? the Hypervisor? I suppose flexpod does give you an alternitive in that respect

    EMC have the VSPEX programme which is just that,

    Your choice of Server, Hypervisor and Network - naturally with EMC Storage underpinning :)

    So if you like HP Servers and Brocade networks you can build the same

      Exactly. VSPEX is another one could take. Consider the three paths that are common:

      1) component level approaches (a DIY design)

      2) VSPEX (a reference architecture)

      3) Vblock (a product)
