    BT Infinity Speed Increase..

    So the BT Infinity site offered to improve my connection speed free of charge, so i clicked through all the message, to be told "good news, you will get 10Mb upload and 40Mb Download, but you have to reneew your contract"...

    Well thats not an increase - thats exactly the same speed as im currently getting... all seems like a con to get people to renew their BT Infinity contracts before they have even been with them for a year.

      We covered that a few days ago.

      Clumsy message, but nothing sinister - existing customers have to renew their contracts at no extra cost. Presumably BT lawyers are closing some loophole?

      <snip>

      The Register asked BT to explain why this was necessary and to also tell us how long an existing subscriber would be required to be tied into that "new contract"?

      A BT spokesman confirmed that such a customer would first need to order a "regrade" from the company before "extending" their contract to another 12 or another 18 months.

      "The new term starts from when we upgrade [their] service,"

    I wouldnt mind renewing the contract mid way through if they actually offered a faster connection, but since the fibre cabinet is right outside my house, i already get a pretty reliable 40mb download speed on Infinity option1 (its always been offered as "upto 40mb") , so no point me renewing the contract if all they are promising is "40Mb download".

    Wonder if its a reaction to some other form of high speed broadband that might be just about to land on our doorsteps (4G maybe??)... lock people in now so we cant all jump ship to a better service??
