Hear No
See No, Do No Evil
What a rotten way to treat people. I read through the linked forum, there are some pretty pissed off people out there and rightly so.
Android developers across Europe are up in arms as Google hasn't processed their March payments, which should have arrived more than a week ago. Google pays developers their 70 per cent share every calendar month, normally in the first few days of the month, with the money then taking a few days to clear. But this month dozens …
As my title already said it: perhaps Symbian/QT Nokia isn't so bad after all. Instead of jumping ship should have remained on all platforms of marketvalue (and although many may not like it, that STILL includes Symbian/QT).
Devs should be less narrow minded and code for more platforms that would at lease alleviate these kind of problems as you receive revenue from a few more sources.
But they're great at collecting:

"If your payment isn't received in full by the due date, Google might work with an external collections agency. This agency might send you a combination of letters and emails that request payment on behalf of Google."
Maybe devs should get a collection agency too.

Quite right. AFAIK there is an EU law according to which suppliers can charge interest on late payments. It was specifically set up to protect small suppliers from large buyers (big corporations or governments) who many times have a policy of paying as late as possible on the principle that a small supplier will not push too hard for prompt payment for fear of losing business
Being the market share king doesn't mean professional developers are all happy with your actions or you are doing well.
Take me as example, got $200 worth of software in my dead Nokia e71 in closet and yet, couldn't buy a single cent worth of software from android market. They (don't want to break Godwin) don't allow me to purchase software. I can't even SEE paid software without hacking my sim card.
If I still had Nokia or bought Apple, I could buy software. We are a huge market.
Sad thing is, unlike me, when people can't buy software ordinarily, they switch to crackers. They also get used to it. Just like music, when they taste piracy, hard to earn them back.
If the thread has collected enough complaints to become a concern then Google will simply lock down the forum telling everyone to e-mail them and eventually remove the thread in its entirely.
Oh the irony; back then it involved the /exact/ same problems; developers complaining about not getting paid.
If this isn't proof enough that in the end Google doesn't care then I don't know what is.
Say anything about google but lets agree they never said a word to other app markets. Only Symbian, blackberry and android has this third party app store function.
There are questionable choices from questionable countries but app stores from countries like Germany (android pit) and Norway (opera) exists. They are governed by really strict accounting and privacy laws and their judicial system is known for centuries for their neutrality.
As ex Symbian user, I never thought Google wouldn't sell stuff to my country. Being google advertiser added to my ignorance. When I figured it, I went to opera store and German owned android pit store. I can't buy 90% of apps even from euro developers since they don't sell there too. Licensing is always used as excuse but I notice stuff I manage to buy, even manually via paypal has google licensing.
They are the ones who puts all their eggs to one basket while there is no reason.
How do you know this isn't a wide-scale problem?
For all we know, 50% of Google's European developers could be involved. That's precisely the point - because there is no method to count those affected, it could be 500 developers, it could be 50,000. My guess is that it's a pretty significant number.

It's no surprise Google takes longer to pay out than to collect but the thing that draws my attention is it seems that under no circumstance does Google ever offer some sort of real support.
Maybe I've not tried hard enough but I don't ever recall be able to contact Google support directly either through a phone number or even email address.
It's also through their shitty suport forums where you can submit your question to be ignored by them or for some idiot to reply to with something of no value.
I do seriously wonder why anyone would want to invest their time into a company's products when that company appears to flat out refuse to support you in any meaningful way.
iirc, for android development too they point you to stack overflow for help too. Yeah I'm sure that's fine most of the time but actually I rather pay for a developer licence and get real support from people within the company like Apple.
Are you saying the apps you had on the Nokia E71 aren't available for purchase because:
a) They haven't been ported to Android
b) The Telco that you bought the phone through has removed access to the android store and have their own store with little in it
c) Some other problem?
I'm interested to learn more of some of the issues people are having.
Thanks,
John
