Apps are overrated

Just look at the top selling apps and you'll notice 90%+ are games and entertainment, and not even good games.

What people actually use are a browser, email, facebook, twitter and youtube. If your device can do those well then really that covers almost everything that matters.

More reliable?

The big question, of course, is whether the 9790 is better behaved, more reliable and has better battery life than the 9900 - possibly almost as bad as the Storm was for a business device.

(And this isn't based on one device, this is based on the various 9900s - and the many replacements - my clients have had)

battery life if ok

If you switch off all the apps that are hiding in the background, phoning home to get the latest tweets, twits, etc.

did a bit of research and experiments on my 9930 (the 9900 sold by verizon) and was amazed how much longer the battery lasts when a lot of this stuff is set to 'manual' or 'on demand', rather than in the background.

Of course, the trend of 'needing' smaller and thinner batteries is to blame too! And you know what, i think we're almost over the hill with that one -- witness the Razr Maxx (or whatever the name of that new motorola phone is).

It's now trendy (and profitable!) to offer a bigger battery, for the more demanding smartphone lifestyle!

Using my phone for just emails and phones, and some browsing, i can comfortably get through 1.5 days (as in 36 hrs)

I don't feel the need to constantly tell my friends what I'm about to do. I just do it. Saves time during the day too, for other stuff (like getting more stuff done, instead of writing about it).

Couple of points:

- battery shape and size is irrelevant; you want the mAh rating.

- bigger batteries are trendy? I think you'll find improving power efficiency is still the number research avenue, as that's where the biggest gains are achievable.

- The only reason batteries are increasing in mAh is packaging (smaller, more efficient CPU's = more space for a physically bigger battery), and more efficient chemistry & management. Phones/tablets won't be getting thicker again any time soon.

Same old same old

So it's a bit better than one BB here and a bit worse than another BB there and a lightly smaller screen but a touchscreen.

Seems RIM can only improve one thing if they cut back on another thing. What would be wrong with the 9900 plus touchscreen?

Confusion....

Ignore that....sympton of BB (and other manufacturers) bringing out endless variations on the same thing, I got my model numbers confused. But still....same old same old. Nothing new, plenty old.

Touchscreen?

My 9900 Bold already has a touch screen...I think they all do. It's a nice screen too, and makes me almost happy that Motorola was late shipping the Pro+ that I had originally ordered...
