But you are still limited to whatever Samsung decide to offer you in terms of an upgrade, and if they don't support whatever feature you want (or they stop offering upgrades after the second or third year when most people own TVs for 10 years) then you're still stuffed.
Dumb panels are always the best bet, assuming you aren't too offended by the presence of an extra box.
Although an open standard for these TV upgrades would be more interesting, so you're not dependent on just the TV manufacturer.

I like the watery background image on the TV, I'll have to get something like that for my desktop.
As for app-tastic, not in the UK at least for now. Over a year ago (2010) Samsung started competitions encouraging developers to create apps for their TV platform

It is now 2012 and Samsung's UK TV appstore, the only one we have access to in the UK, still doesn't have the purchase infrastructure to support commercial apps.
Apple invented this first, samsung just copied it didnt you know, cant you see, it has a black border around the TV and the edges are round. Apple will come out with a TV, looks the same as this and will have the same features, will be made by samsung, and apple will say they copied them, cos they is apple they is, so they invented it all first :p
