    How Times change...

I was mulling over this the other night. It doesn't seem that long ago to me that Russian elections were won with 90%plus majorities... Things may not be perfect but the world sure has changed.

      How times change?

... actually, not that much has changed!

Everything LOOKS democratic and "free" now, but the same power hungry mobsters are still ruling with the same set of dirty methods of oppression (just read the article once more, this time between the lines!).

They had to become a bit smarter and more subtle for the sake of foreign bucks, that's all.

I don't know enough about the situation to say definitively whether or not there were widespread attacks against either side but these do seem like the kind of websites that would receive significantly higher traffic than normal on election day.

Livejournal WAS (actually, still is) target of a DDOS, not for the first time this year. They only managed to stay online this time with minimal hiccups because they've gotten some experience on dealing with the attacks recently.

Back to Some of Their Old Tricks

Russia may not be the same totalitarian state as the former Soviet Union, but it committed a war of aggression against Georgia under Medvedev and Putin. It will be difficult even for a democratic Russian government to hand Medvedev and Putin over to Georgian authorities to be tried for the crime of aggressive war the way Tojo was - but that's what will be needed to convince the world Russia is serious about being a responsible member of the community of democratic nations.

    WTF?

And this is a surprise to anyone?

With Comrade Putin, the former head of the KGB, running the country...and YES...HE is still running the show...is this any surprise?

    Not to moi.
