When I was made redundant (years ago), the outplacement agency told us to focus on our social network (real one, facebook didn't exist yet) for job opportunities. And that's how I found mine...

Absolutely - I had a similar experience. But I think there's a huge difference between contacting real-world friends and former colleagues to find work and using pseudo-friends on Facebook or even LinkedIn.

I use social networking when recruiting.

If an applicant lists social networking as a "skill" or sends a link to their !GooMyFaceYouTwit site, their resume/CV goes into the shredder. Handy filter, that :-)
