back to article First smut site erected on .xxx address

The first porn site to use a .xxx web address has gone live, and domain manager ICM Registry has announced another way to make internet perving a "safer" experience. Casting.xxx (NSFW, incredibly) started doing its bit to feed the world's appetite for "adult entertainment" last night. While ICM has had a corporate site online …

    Wait....what?

"MetaCert makes a free browser plug-in that can block sites and insert mouseover warnings into search engine results, based on its hosted database of known porn sites.

Under its deal with ICM, every .xxx site will be automatically labelled as adults-only in this database."

Surely just add *.xxx to the database? Doesn't need a commercial agreement. Isn't that rather the point of .xxx in the first place?

    1. PaulWalsh

      MetaCert add-on

Michael, the MetaCert /ICM deal goes a little deeper than we can report. What I can add however, is that we will update the add-on to include more information about the other assertions that are made by .xxx sites - such as the identity being verified and the fact that every site is scanned for malware.

You are right in saying we could use a wildcard to label every .xxx domain, but we're doing a little more than just labeling the .xxx sites.

It's important to note that our Family Safety product is less than 5% of our roadmap. This just happens to be the first product launch.

I see there's no link to the add-on so here it is:

      http://family-safety.metacert.com

      What site!

Couldn't even get to the Reg article. Our firewall said NO! in big shouty letters and said why the article was blocked, PORN! and said it would tell tales on me to the computer men.

Good job I am the computer men.

    FIRST....

Pay for porn site on the new .xxx domain. well...i remember i used to say email me here at *@*.xxx but i guess i'll have to just say *@yah*.com from now on eh? I wonder if *ware writers will try and compromise these websites to host their payloads. I still dont think this will make blocking porn any easier. So, I guess i'll be the first to say it.. When do we get theregister.xxx ???

    Paris because <no comment needed>

The first xxx site - "casting.xxx" - goes online, and already I feel soiled.

No, I don't have any problem with all the bonking going on.

It's the premise of "casting.xxx" that bothers me: a fake agent (and you can tell because it has "FAKE AGENT" just in case you miss it) has his own casting couch to lure young women to shag on. He promises them an entry into the porn world, but all the viewers know the real score - he's a lying bastard trying to get his end in.

In reality, I suspect all the actresses are pros in the business, in the know, and are fully compensated. Never the less, this site is directed at all the wankers in the audience who get an extra bit of frisson off on dishonesty and deceit. Yuck.

    A bit more creativity, please!

Oh, come on now Kevin, you weren't really trying very hard with that title were you?

Why not, "First erection on .xxx", or something along those lines?

WTF because, well, that's what the .xxx's are for, isn't it?

    Yeah, Right

"Larry Flynt's Hustler publishing empire has also reportedly written to ICM demanding that it take action to specifically protect Hustler's trademarks in the .xxx space, accusing the company of a "shakedown"."

I'm sure Hustler can't afford $75 a year per domain to register it's .xxx domains

    1. Anonymous Coward
      Anonymous Coward

      Why bother paying?

Just wait and see if someone tries to use your brand name, then tell them to give it up or you'll sue them.

Don't see why anyone should pay every Tom, Dick or Harry registry that sets up to pre-emptively protect their copyright. It's just another scam, even if it is one that targets large corporations.
