"Do more with less" springs to mind when describing the conflicting demands placed on IT: new devices, more services with better performance, not to mention making it all nice and secure too. And, oh, we want all that at a lower price please. Trying to shoehorn this into existing ways of working is likely to end in tears. So …

    Spending wisely is one

    I have worked in many places where they cheap out in the WRONG area's of IT.

    Things like;

    network backbones.... ahh SOHO kit will be fine.

    Executive PC's have to be top notch !

    We can use $open_source_solution for this ! Oh it's free ! never mind the hundreds of man hours needed to tweak, and configure it, and keep it running.

    Windows OEM licenses vs proper transferable ones.

    Cheaping on the mission critical server, but insisting on a top notch box for the CEO to store his pics on.

    They are just a few that spring to mind.

    Saying we have "Strictly defined policies & processes" would be true.

    But for accuracy the poll needs to add "that are not evaded more often than adhered to."
