back to article EMC employee filched $1m worth of hardware

An EMC employee stole around a million dollars' worth of kit from the company over almost ten years. Testing employee Kevin Kelly stole small products from an EMC Apex facility in North Carolina, walking them out of the door in a gym or duffel bag. He sold them over the internet - a process known as e-fencing - to BL Trading …

The "employee who bought the stolen goods has died since the thefts ceased"

One thing for sure, he won't be charged or convicted and the company will be able to blame everything on him and get away blame free.

Not even the U.S. government can bring back the dead.

    A bit convenient?

"Its employee who bought the stolen goods has died since the thefts ceased in 2009."

This would be the Mr Smith that was on the books but worked from home which is why no-one ever saw him?

The title is required, and must contain letters and/or digits.

Reminds me of an old song...

'One piece at a time and it didnt cost me a dime'

I think EMC should be in court for allowing this to go on fot nearly 10 years....

      Or, more likely...

They both got their bean counter --- who, when arrested, thought he was stitching up them.

    Sir

    Up to 32 years?!

He should have just kidnapped the VP of EMC at gunpoint and ransomed him for the money instead, he would probably be facing less jail time.

      Kidnapping

Actually Kidnapping some one and then ransoming them is one of the few things that will guarantee to get you life in the US. 25 to life . What mean by that is judge out here constantly give long terms for that . You would do less time for murder

"You would do less time for murder"

so, once they pay up you're better off if they don't make it out alive? kill someone and get a reduced sentence for bad behaviour?

was a joke, but then i thought about what the US system is like, and unfortunately it seems that in the US if you commit a minor crime then you are far better off if you kill the witnesses - it won't make the slightest bit of difference to your sentence if you get caught, but it'll help your chances of getting away with it

been done before... Johnny Cash's take

This is not a new idea, Johnny Cash sang about the principle of it in 1976:

    and the whole song:

    US sentences

One thing I like about the U.S. is their long jail sentences. They keep serious criminals off the street for a long time so they can't raise kids. Here in the U.K., we like to slap people on the wrist, even when there are traumatised victims. If we made some room in our jails by decriminalising personal drug use, and created walk-in centres for drug fixes, we would have fewer drug-fuelled crimes, and prison space for longer sentences for other offences.

EMC employee filched $1m worth of hardware

Now, was that $1m based on list prices that no one ever pays, or deep discount prices the sales droids usually sell gear at? Realistic value: more like $150k.

    Another variation

A different joke is about a man working in a Chinese bicycle factory, trying to steal a bicycle piece by piece... Problem is, for some reason, every time he assembles the pieces he gets a machine gun.
