back to article Panasonic pitches monster 3D plasma TV at monster price

103in plasma 3D TV, anyone? Yours if you have £75,000 ($120,000) and a Japanese bank account handy, says Panasonic, which introduced the monster set this morning in the Land of the Rising Sun. You don't get much extra for your money - no Blu-ray Disc player, or bundled content. At least Panasonic has the courtesy to chuck in a …

    Oh! goody ...

Buy four of them for a start, fix on a roof and bingo! a modern micro-dwelling for the tech-savy stoodent. No need for windows or lighting (or even heating for that matter). Oh! and plaster the roof with PV cells of course. Maybe they should just start making wall panels with a tv on one side and pv cels on t'other.

    Won't

1080p be a ridiculously low resolution for a 103 inch tv? I think it's bordering on low for the 40incher I have. But then I did, jokingly, use it as a computer monitor at one point.

    Argahha my eyes

Pixel Pitch on this must be huge! why not just use tricolour LEDS? I bet you need to be about 30 feet away from this monster to see it! whats the point?

One set of glasses! If thats enough for the average family home.. Japan truely is a wierd place.

1.3kw yeah thats gonna put out some heat then.. will be nice and toastie on a summer day. Time to upgrade the aircon too?

oh yeah and panashodic will come with guide+ adverts in the uk! even if you pay 75k they'll still stuff you with more ads than google.

    Pointless surely?

Surely I could buy a 3d ready projector, capable of 1080 hd, screen, adaptors and glasses for about 1/10th of the price. And not have a 300kg monster tv sat immovable in my living room. (The american one I'm looking at achieves all that at under $1000 apparently, and has a picture size of upto 118 inches...).

There again, I agree, at these sizes, 1080 isn't enough (unless you sit a long way back, and lose the immersive feeling)

    321kg?

Wow. How is Parcelforce going to get that in a van?

Oh they'll just fold it in half.

(Mind you, even the specialist companies have issues - I received a 50" plasma back from repair a while back .. completely smashed..)

    Adds in the EPG....

... is a good enough reason for anyone to avoid Panasonic like the plague.

    New?

That looks exactly like the 103" Panasonic Plasma on demo in a store down the road. Been there for over a year now, originally 80,000EUR, now down around 30k. We're all wondering if it'll find a price where some mug'll buy it before it gives up.

I reckon this one's straight out of the "take existing version and add 3D" school of design. I wonder if its NEW!!!11!! 3D-ness will make it sell any better?

    FAIL

    And now for the ads

And I bet the UK version of this is crippled with flashing adverts all over the Freeview EPG too.

The human eye is incredibly UNdiscerning

Size really does matter more than resolution to the human eye.

A DVD can look stunning projected on an 80" screen with a decent projector on a decent screen, but look terrible on a 32"/40" LCD TV... the resolution is the same. (shrug)
