Seems to be, they have none.
They had Symbian, they have Bada, they have Android.
Out of all of those, Android seems the best and most scalable and free to licence and use. The simple answer is to jetoson everythin else and spread Android love across the range, as clearly is ZTE can make sub £100 and decent Android phones, is there any need for Samsung to have anything else?
Nokia it seems will fall on their sword rather than give up on Symbian, which is rather sad, as they make excellent hardware, I (and I suspect most people) would love to see Nokia hardware running on Android, but anything else from Nokia? Thanks but No Thanks...
Someone needs to visit Nokia and teach them the lesson that it's time to swallow the pride.
Nokia delivers about 260000 handsets a day. On the low range it is Symbian and I cannot see anything wrong with that. Besides Symbian has been more or less completely run bye Nokia.
What else Nokia has to day is Qt and Meego (together with Intel).
I do not find it surprising that Nokia does not jump on the Android wagon.
They have all the weapons to do it themselves as they have in the past.
Eriksson jumped on MS as a saviour but gave up, now they are jumping on Android and that all clearly shows the have given up any hope of running the show or at least pretending they are still
something to count on.
As has been said elsewhere though, the issue with going "android only" is that you have to rely on content and UI to differentiate yourself. If you come up with a new hardware feature (hey lets add a hand mixer to the phone - sorry thinking about the rather excellent toad-in-the-hole I made last night), you have to make sure that any additional chipsets etc you add to the device have drivers and UI components that fit into the linux architecture. I know this is the same to some degree if you have your own OS but often times you have your own inhouse phone OS folks who can probably throw something together. If you go andriod only you would, IMO, more likely just have an inhouse reference design and porting team which wouldnt necessarily have the same skill set.
I think part of the reason for some of the confusion here around phone OS strategy is that some of the phone companies forget that there is a segment out there that just wants a phone thats is, well a phone, and dont need camera, email, games, etc. Thats of course coming from the person who has an iPhone 4.
Think a bloke from Canada's going to do just that. I hope.
Did anyone see a news video of Jorma Ollilla - the bloke who basically took Nokia out of the rubber boots/cable/toilet paper regime, and put Nokia where it , well, in fairness, was?
