As a former NHS IM&T type...

Who's moved to greener pastures, i'm wondering if this includes N3. I'm guessing that as one of the only useful things NPfIT achieved it's being retained?

N3 and COIN, the insecure networks

What, the N3 network that was never proved to be secure? The same network from which the COINs were hanging off, which certain dubious individuals also claimed was secure without ever conducting proper full independent testing? FAIL

As a result of this piss poor planning and implementation, the whole lot had to be treated as a hostile network by the IT professionals.

What's wrong with private industry competing for the contract?

When a big public work is being planned, such as the BeiJing Olympics, governments hold competitions.

    Why not for technical projects?

My PCT is considering dumping C&B as well.

Since there seem to be some N3 experts here, can anyone point me to some documentation on it? I'd like to get an ssh connection into a surgery from outside N3 - googled for hours, but found nothing on getting through the gateway... :(

      Ring them and ask.

      http://www.n3.nhs.uk/HowdoI/contactn3.cfm

Contact them and ask. You need the SIN number of the site. If you don't have it, get the postcode and be *very* nice and they look it up for you.

If your working with N3 then you probably want to get yourself access to this:-

Also, you might find this useful for getting answers from fellow NHS IM&T types:-
