But the iPhone uses HTTP...
And if Vodafone blocked that...well you get the picture.
Vodafone is still blocking RTSP streams, for the sake of the children, eight months after claiming the block was a temporary measure, thoughiPhone users remain free to stream what they like. The block was instituted last October, and at that time Vodafone claimed it was a temporary measure while servers were being upgraded. …
As a Vodafone customer I find their network robust with good coverage in the most bizarely unexpected of places where mu chums with other quality networks struggle, Vodafone has made an exception with Lichfield for some reason where they seem to have forgotten to allow for coverage.
However do seem to have forgotten there is more to their business that an audio network and struggle with the associated technology.
Their website is laughable, the "my account section" specialises in 3 clicks where one would do and hides important info in obscure places. In fact the website is a trip back to early business type sites.
Their billing has been so poor that a random number generator may be more accurate.
That is only two and I am stopping now before I go into full rant but can they not employ someone who understand these other aspects of their business and improve upon them?
By the look of the forums and the harsh methods of Vodafone admins on closing any threads that are vaguely like the original one, this does not bode well for Voda customers (myself included).
It is a shame that this is being so badly managed, I am inclined to think that the RTSP stream blocking has nothing to do with compliance with Ofcom regs (as that is covered surely by the standard enable adult content are you over 18 check) but more to do with bandwidth usage. Still with their change in policy on charging punters who go over the feeble 500meg allocation I would imagine this will cover bandwidth costs for the worst offenders.
I think they should engage with their customers rather than closing threads and be more aware of what people expect to be able to do with smart phones nowadays and there should not be one rule for one handset (even if it is the Jesus Phone) and one rule for another.
As I a contemplating upgrading to the iPhone 4 I wish I had more options in my local area other than Vodafone to give my business to.
Surely this is much easier than they are making out ??
You just block all traffic to Pay As You Go tarrif's, all monthly tarrif's can be left open of any blocking.
The reason being, you cannot enter into a financial contract/higher purchase in the UK under the age of 18, QED anyone on a monthly charging structure is over the age of 18 and can deprave themselves in any way they see fit (subject to Extreme porn laws etc).
