You don't need a JobCentre to look for work, I never got any help from them...
You need to go to a JobCentre so they can check you are looking (and help if required).
Where does it say he wasn't looking for work?
Where does it say he was going there to get help looking for work?
I worked for 10 years straight, and was out for some months (now im not, luckily). The instant stigma people get is crazy - people making comments like yours give the unemployed a bad name ;) (that is only a bit of a job).

Maybe if the people inside actually tried to help the people outside rather than trying to eject them... then maybe they wouldn't waste so much money.
BTW. Ever seen a sign outside? Apparently you cannot do anything, not even talk on a phone... but this only applies to YOU the unwashed heathen... security guards and staff can talk and eat all day long, no fuss there.
Oh, and try cycling to a job centre, being ejected, being told you can reschedule, being accused of not turning up, being told you can reschedule, being accused of not turning up (yes twice), being told that you shouldn't have been ejected... going next time and being ejected again...
(yes this happened, luckily it was only a few months after a straight 10 years of employment so im glad im no longer there). Maybe I was one of these that couldn't be bothered look for work too?

Surely the whole point of a Jedi hood is so you can slip it down at appropriately impressive moment.
A true Jedi would have dropped his hood just as the Stormtroopers were about to eject him, thus nullifying their plan, then with suitably theatrical hand movements, forced them aside and gone about his business.
Must have been a newbie.

Jedis are superior...
A Jedi is somebody who is supposed to possess actual leet powers with influence on real world (he also has to be good with at least a katana of course). Absence of leet powers indicates a Jedi neophyte or acolyte who still needs training to accede to the lower rungs of Jedihood. Thus you can actually test for Jedihoodness, in other words, Jedi claims are falsifiable.
"Official" Abrahamic religions just demand faith in the existence of an arbitrary Superoverlord and make shit up about divine intervention or miracles that may occur from time to time (not to mention arbitrary interpretation of the scripture and if need be retconning the scripture to accomodate current dogma). Evidently inferior.

I think a better point in the Muslim v Jedi is,
Nobody has gone to war in the real world over who is or isn't a true jedi.
I'm pretty sure a fuck tonne of wars have been fought over who is/isn't a true christian/jew/muslim/hindu/etc
And all of it is about giving humans a sense of purpose in another wise pointless existence, "what do you mean I just die? What the hell is the point in working if I'm just going to die? Jedis are not required to wear a hood.
If he is saying he MUST wear it then he hasnt see the films. Anakin and Obiwan rarely wear their hoods and NEVER when they are in the Jobcentre (prove me wrong!).
Besides, if he was a true Jedi, he would have a lightsaber that worked and a Master to tell him how to balance rocks and stuff. Also, Jedis are a peacable people who dont cause trouble unless they are in a cantina in mos eisley....and i blame the band!
Seems to me he thinks the boys at the jobcentre have a sense of humour. They dont, not even a dark one.

Has the job centres remit changed? Granted it has been 8 years since I had to (very) briefly sign on, but back then their job appeared to involve making those who actually wanted to work feel like idiots while ignoring the people stood at the doorway talking about where they were going to get their next hit from once their JSA was in their accounts (I kid you not!). And don't get me started on extenuating circumstances!!
Agree with what my freind said - the people that work there seem to be the ones that would have no hope of work anywhere else.

Recognition
An amusing story it may have been in the 2001 census, but that's not how you grant a religious recognition. All the trick in the census did was to grant it a code in the results, i.e. it doesn't appear as "other". It started out as a protest against the question even being asked in the census, but seems to have changed. I look forward to being bored by it in 2011.

Erm no it was not, there was an online hoax campaign that claimed if enough people write jedi on the form it would be recognized as a religion. Enough people clicked to make it interesting enough for the General Registrar to publish the numbers, but he made it clear that it was not a recognized religion, nor had there been any chance it would have become one.

either it's for security, or it's not.
if it's really for security then religion shouldn't come into it, you want to come in, you show your face.
in the same way if your religion prevents you from serving alcohol, you don't go into bars, or work at a supermarket checkout, refusing to serve anyone alcohol. If your religion doesn't allow you to show your face, you don't go into places where you have to show your face. If your religion doesn't approve of birth control, you don't get a job as a pharmacist, and refuse to dispense it.
If you choose to follow a religion, then you choose to accept the restrictions it places on you, don't make everyone else bend to accept them as well.

It's a well known fact that Jediness may be verified by midichlorian count. I'm quite surprised the Jobcentre is not in possession of the Jedi home test kit--available for a song on Amazon. With the economy in a sorry state and omnipresent chav outbreaks, jedis must be in constant demand. Things could have been sorted no fuss. A recent study published in the Lancet by R. Boyle demonstrates that midichlorian counts are highest in adipose tissue (hence the origin of the term largess; and note that obeisance derives from obese). Therefore, lacking a test kit, they really only needed to have him drop his drawers (or hike his cloak) and measure (in a crude visual estimate kind of way) his rear-attending cottage cheese, and if insufficient, throw him out on it.

Government (local and national & the Quangos) spend a small fortune coming up with reems of policies, proceedures, guidance then cascading it to every member of staff. Then, at the first sign of a 'complaint' they capitulate and issue a grovelling apology to a dimwit, I quote "We are committed to provide a customer service which embraces diversity and respects customers' religion."
Branch boss Wendy Flowers (a made up name if ever I heard one!) should be sacked and have rotten fruit and veg thrown at her in Ye Olde town centre.
At least they hit the 10 working day deadline for responding to a complaint.

Religion
Why did this happen?
I choose to believe in a set of ideas, fortunately the society in which I live in is largely compatible with these ideas. Not 100% compatible, mind you, probably not even 80% compatible, but by and large, comfortably compatible. The incompatibilities? You learn to live with them.
It is said that however, there are some people... some who have a radically different set of ideas, some of which include the idea that they are the people of god, they can go round and kill in this god's name and get away with it and in fact, get a hero's welcome and x number of virgins whatever when they buy the farm this way. These people, claim there religion is founded on peace but history, during time of founding and time and again shows contrariwise.... stick in communes of their own and not integrate and not bother to learn the language. Demand that certain common farm yard animals, typically cartoonised and present in kiddie literature and kindergarten walls be erased. Demand menus of cafeterias be changed. Demand that they be allowed to be shrouded in a hood no matter where they go so long as they purport to have 2 X chromosomes. Allegedly they also insult, verbally abuse and even sometimes attack other peoples not of their own because they dress differently (ie those that do not cover up to the point that you do not know what is actually under all that, man or woman).
Apparently this alleged group of people are quite vocal and demanding of such changes, in my society, in my country, in my Europe.
I can understand why Mr. Jedi did what he did, and in fact I am in 2 minds about posting this.
Firstly, there is a chance this could sow discord.
But more importantly secondly not talking about it could lead to people in power making rash decisions based on short-sighted 'PC'ness ( "Let's let people in shrouds roam unchecked" for example - a definite major security disaster... or "no kindergarten now will ever have a book featuring a pig in it" a majorly stupid decision of epic proportions... those kind of decisions)....
One would not bow to the demands of a white-supermacist nazi party. One should definitely not bow to such demands as above.
Be tolerant, but stand your ground firm.

Deliberately walking around like a pratt immediately tells me the guy is not serious about getting a job and, even worse, finds it both acceptable and funny to waste the time of Job Centre staff when there are a lot of deserving people out there who are desperate for a job.

Jedi stirring trouble
I do not pretend to know all the intricacies of the Jedi religion. Maybe it's quackery, maybe there is something to it... But, I have seen the Star Wars movies to know that at least the way the Jedi behaved in that universe is very unlike this supposed "Jedi" is behaving.
Jedi normally follow whatever rules and regulations that normal citizens are subject to, and only disobeyed in extreme cases.
I also don't remember any Jedi in the movies looking for jobs at a job center, and definitely not filing formal complaints against anyone.
I'm not one to pick on someones beliefs, but somehow I don't feel this person believes anything he says he does and is really only looking to stir trouble and draw attention.. Two traits that are also not very "Jedi-like.'

With the established anglican church in decline, sooner or later people are going to start asking why they still have so much power (21 bishops in the House the Lords) and it will have to be disestablished. The question is then over whether the UK becomes secular, or adopts some kind of weird system of religious privilege for various different faith systems. That was why they added "religion" to the census to help them decide what would be an "official" religion, and that is why many of us chose to put "Jedi", as an anti-establishment gesture to show what a load of bollocks it all is. From which we can see:
a) he's looking for work
b) his marketing campagn is inspired (taking a sun journo to the JC with him)
c) he's providing employment for others (said journo + JC employees)
d) he's cheeper than a criminal (and probably recieving less social)

f) he's brave enough to enter the dark temple of Job Centeredness

Seriously, that is wholly unsuitable attire for a Jedi.
Robes or cloaks should be worn with a hood, not a bloody jacket. A hoodie does not either a robe nor a cloak constitute; a hoodie's hood is only acceptable if it is what Top Gear would call "moist" out and one needs to shelter one's head from the moistness of the sky. He needs to get himself either a proper set of robes or a proper cloak.
And at all times a Jedi should never be afraid to remove his hood and show his face when requested or required to.
In short: Jedi Fail. He needs to seriously get with the program; a Jedi can wear loose, more practical clothing when it would be called for, but you shouldn't try to shoehorn in a stupid hood when it's uncalled for.
That said, he deserves props for getting a job and causing a stir about it. And he makes a good point; if other religions requiring face covering get a wash, why not being a Jedi? It would be better if he'd done it in a full robe or cloak outfit, though; simply because there's not enough tossers wearing cloaks and he'd at least have had a decent excuse.

Maybe Jediism is not a "real" religion because it was made up in a movie while religions like Christianity, Islam, etc. were created because people heard voices in their head, believing it to be a divine being.
