back to article US and Russia begin cyberwar limitation talks

The US and Russia have begun talks on limiting the the military use of cyberspace. Entry into the cyber arms reduction talks - convened by a United Nations arms control committee - represents a significant shift for the US, which has resisted entering such talks for years, the New York Times reports. The change of tack came …

    Funny China isnt joining in...

Considering that most of the media reports ive read (including on here) seem to think that as far as state sponsored cybercrimes go China is the big risk, you would think that the US and russians would want them at the table too...

    just a thought...

    Unenforceable?

Good luck enforcing this. Surely most if not all 'cyberwar' is vigilantism carried out by private citizens who simply want an excuse to go haxxoring? As the article states, it's hard, nay impossible, to find or prove state involvement in any major 'cyberwar' incident to date.

I wonder what this is really about *dons tin foil hat*

look at the size of my stick

The US loves to wave its stick around when it has the biggest stick, as soon as someone else has a stick as big or bigger they suddenly want stick size limitation treaties and stick non proliferation treaties. They also don't want 'rogue states' (for that read 'states they cannot control) developing their own big sticks.

As we all know, the US is the only stick wielding nation that can use their stick, or the threat of their stick, responsibly.

    Cnuts.

Idiot Free Space ........ Universally Available.

I should just like to make it Perfectly Clear that NEUKlearer HyperRadioProActive IT is by its Default Civil CyberSpace Non Military Nature Exempt from any such Laudable Agreement ....... and in AIRuling Class of ITs Own in Advanced Non-State Actor Fields of CyberIntelAIgent Security Operation. It would though wholeheartedly endorse and support all such proposals.

I do find it somewhat naively optimistic of Russia and America though, to imagine that they can Control Anything in an Imaginative Space which is impervious to dumb Weapons of Mass Destruction and a Place which does not allow Entry to those who would field them as some ignorant big stick against neighbours.

Yes, quite so, John Dee ....... although beautifully far removed from a blessed virgin being existence. A taste for all the vices in moderation will easily control the sins of excess in any and all and render them virtually harmless extraordinarily.
