Ooooh! Ooooh!
Can I be the first to say:
Default search engine: Bing!
For that bada-bing! experience
Taking on Google may seem a tall order to some, but it's one that Samsung clearly isn’t afraid of. The manufacturer has launched its own open mobile platform, Bada, as an alternative to Android. The platform only allows developers to write applications for Samsung handsets, the firm said, yet is apparently "simple to use" and …
The platform only allows developers to write applications for Samsung handsets...
I stopped reading at this point. Why can't this short-sighted lot focus on a single open platform instead of this pointless, narcissistic "me too" approach. It was the death of Nokia and will lead to the demise of others as things progress. We've now got 2 routes MAC v ANDROID.
Reminds me of the Eighties MAC v MSFT. Same old attitude from Apple suggests that this one's going the same way.
Oh yeah, developers will just FLOCK to writing applications for one manufacturer when they could be writing for an OS that will show up on many more handsets from many manufacturers. Or if they really want to write for a single-source platform, they could write for the one that's well known, established, and has cultish followers.
FAIL icon only because there's no MASSIVE FAIL
it's merely a "drop in the ocean..."
Massive, massive fail...I mean, WTF are their execs thinking???
This is why I am happy I no longer work in a telco - apparently even mobile device vendors have reached the stage where it isn't about earning money for the firm that counts, it is enhancing your kingdom within the firm even if it looses money. This is obviously some exec's idea on how to build up a new domain of responsibility and get himself noticed...even if it will certainly fail. He's just hoping it fails AFTER he has his promotion...
Remember kids, we never get the products that we want in the marketplace, we get the products that some executives have decided they could get promoted by selling to us...and in many corporations these things are not in alignment...
“a fun and diverse mobile experience”.
Only for those with no life or friends. I hope that the rest of us (excluding the scumbags in Marketing) just want our phones to work for more than 6 hours before running out of power due to all of the useless bloatware stuck on them.
...'Acme' phones---after that ubiquitous purveyor of all things needful (especially needful to coyotes in pursuit of roadrunners).
Anyway, generic handsets where the user can pick and choose what OS they want to use. This would probably rule out some more proprietary phone OSs, but, hey ho, small loss.
Google is using Linux and call it Android.
Nokia is using Linux and call it Maemo.
Samsung is using Linux and call it Bada.
Then there is Moblin, OpenMoko and so on.
So what kind of an assault is that.
If you really want to have a look at who is using Linux then have a look at.
