This is a real shame for all future laptop users. As stated in the article the nVidia chipsets had much beter built in graphics capabilty, to be honest the Intel ones aren't up to much. Since built in graphics is about all you can expect in a laptop, what with the space premium an'all, this means that laptop performance will be further degraded w.r.t. desktop equivilants in processor, RAM, disc etc...
Plus, not allowing others to utilise the full potential of your chip seems to be anti-competitive to me. More so than IE being packaged with Windows, at least then you could choose to download and install a different browser.
On the bright side, this gives AMD a huge advantage with laptop gamers... 8-)
I knew Intel chipsets were bad but didn't realise they were that bad! The last 3 generations of Nvidia chipsets taught me to just turn off any 'advanced' feature straight away, rather than waiting for Nvidia to do it in later drivers.
Losing competition is never good but Nvidia hardly pushed Intel to improve their products and only diehard fanbois will notice them quitting the chipset biz.
If I recall correctly, Apple announced just a few months back that they were going exclusively with Nvidia video in all their products. Since Apple's reputation is built squarely on having high-performance graphics as a key product feature, this might put the Jobsian sect into a panty-wringing bind. Or maybe this is what Nvidia hopes: Apple's pressure on Intel would be somewhat forceful.
On the other hand, we might see Apple's next generation with their own CPU and chipsets, or even with the next-generation AMD stuff.
Nahhhh, never happen...
Nvidia will still be doing their graphics cards, they just won't be producing motherboard chipsets.
It's a shame tbh, I rather liked Nvidia and their loss will I believe hurt the market (and so us) in the long term.
I really, really wish that they had gone in with VIA... Their Nano CPUs are wonderful little performers.

The GPUs are good, it's just a shame that everything else about them is rubbish... unreliable SATA controllers, badly-designed integrated Ethernet, the lot. I assumle they've finally put their hardware firewalling solution that never worked right out of its misery, but still...

.... I'd like you to find some single sided 2gb or higher dimms in Perth Australia :( so much for the 8gb of Kingmax ram I bought with the board....
