Linux kernel 6.11 lands with vintage TV support

is getting more capable, and PREEMPT_RT is going mainstream The Linux Foundation hopes to raise cash by branding a Visa card with its cutesy Tux mascot. Executive director of the org, Jim Zemlin, said people can carry "Tux in their pocket" to show their support for Linux. The foundation has buddied up with CardPartner to offer the Platinum credit card through UMB Bank. It is only …
Because Visa really gives a shit about Linux as such...I mean, Visa is a global company after all that only cares about profit, not the "good of the world". The NWO people are trying to muscle in bit by bit. I am not saying Visa dont ahve some bsd boxes and the such, I am 100% sure they do, but they don't care about the philosophy and all that
So let me get this straight. The people who brought about the global economic crisis by lending money to people with no way of repaying are now pitching credit cards to people who dont like paying?.
I suppose we have had the can't pay, might as well have the wont pay.
Besides, what on earth is a linux fanboy going to buy with his linux credit card. All his software is open source, all his music is from piratebay, all his friends are online and anything he buys to work with his computer will probably be only compatable with windows or a mac. That only leaves using it to pay for porn in which case why not drop the act and dump the penguin and put a pair of tits on the front of the card instead.
Anyhow, as its a linux credit card will it arrive as a blank plastic card and you have to program the chip and stripe and put the picture on the front yourself? Will you be able to go to visa for help doing this or will you have to spend hours trawling through internet news groups full of countless posts asking how its done but scant all sign of any answers?
In the light of this revelation, I rushed over to NetCraft to see what OS / software Visa's web server was using. The results were highly suspicious - Microsoft's IIS 7.0, allegedly running on a Linux box...
Given that IIS 7.0 apparently only runs on Windoze Server 2003 and Vista, methinks someone's telling Netcraft porkies...

"Although to be a true linux afficionado, one must treat this with scathing contempt (see previous posts)"
Agreed.
"but am I the only one who would get this at a drop of a hat once it comes to the UK."
Me wants. What to do, what to do ...

I spend more money on stuff than you (my clients appreciate the quality of my work and pay accordingly) and I'm not quite as fascinated by tits as you seem to be. So, why don't you fuck off, and fork over some more of your paltry financial resources to your favourite convicted criminal.
...and all Windows and Mac users are corporate sop's, who slavishly buy anything from their favourite money guzzling multinational as long as it's shiny, yes?
I don't think either stereotype really fits the majority of people.
I use Linux because it is UNIX like, because of the intellectual freedom, and also because it's not encumbered by someone trying to extract as much money as possible from me as often as possible. This is not being a freetard, merely financial prudence. I have in the past paid for Linux distros before the Internet was fast. And I buy all my media unless P2P is the *ONLY* way to get it as a last resort (mainly deleted titles). And I waited a long time until Amazon got their MP3 store up and running (usable from Linux - Horay) before doing anything other than ripping CD's and LP's for music.
And I have credit cards. Mainly because (shock, horror) I have a family (a real one, with kids and all) and I need to even out money flow sometimes. Might consider swapping one to get one with TUX in my pocket. Might not though...
Visa is only a credit processor. Such that they transfer details to said banks, send authorize to the merchants system, and skim a percentage off the top for the privilege. Blaming them for credit problems is like blaming the publisher for a bad book.
grenade cause there's a rabbit around here somewhere
Windows and all its software is expensive, so children learn that the only way they can use the software is to find a source of illegal copies. Some people never grow out of the habit, and extend it to music and films.
One reason Linux users buy so little software is that there is so little commercial software available for Linux that is better than what they can get for free. Programmers earn their living from copyright laws, and free/open source software depends on copyright. I have found that penguinstas have more respect for copyright than Windows users.
The bank and the Linux foundation earn their money by taking a percentage from each sale (normally absorbed by the vendor). The bank gets their best profit from people who do not repay at the end of each month. If the commission is not so high that vendors refuse to accept the card, and if the terms and conditions are fair, then the card look interesting as a way to support Linux.

Possibly the best and funniest post I've read for a while! Couldn't agree more!
Have one on me!
Oh and mitthf - IIS7 runs on Windows 2008 Server only. Nice to see you can skip knowing the technology but can happily modiy the wording to slate it. Congrats
* The freedom to run the card, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the card works, and change it to make it do what you wish (freedom 1). Access to the bank vault is a precondition for this.
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
* The freedom to improve the card, and release your improvements (and modified versions in general) to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the bank vault is a precondition for this.
...I don't want it.
Who says Linux users don't pay for things? Do we get out PCs, laptops, netbooks, phones, portable media players, and other gadgets free as well as our OS? Damn, and all this time I've been using a credit card.
jeremy 3: I'd get one if they were available over here. I have a VISA already but one with Tux on, that allowed me to pay for my OS, would be great.
visa are a payment processor that just links the shop with the bank, they don't issue the cards - the fact it's visa just means it can be used anywhere that accepts visa cards, not that it's anything to do with them
it's UMB Bank issuing a card with a linux picture on the front and then paying the linux foundation a cut of the revenue as a reseller
worth noting i've seen a couple of card issuers who will let you customise your card by printing a custom (provided by you) graphic on to the card, just obviously if you've gone to them directly then the linux foundation won't get a cut of the money... plus they are rarely the best deal going (higher overheads, plus restricting your choice of provider to some small bank never leaves you open to the cheapest deals from the big banks!) or a quick google will find dozens of pre-paid "gift card" companies who will do this for a small fee
Utterly pointless!
If you want support Linux, get the software and use it. Buy a t-shirt to show everyone, if you want, the merchandise profits may help thre foundation, the t-shirt will be seen by all and sundry more often.
Is this pointless card really going to stir up your average person to dump windows and try something new? No!
Is the average shop assistent going to suddenly start a conversation about the latest release of Gnome/KDE? 1 in 50,000, maybe?
Linux people get this: 98% of people who use PC's don't give a toss what's on it, so long as the browser ( preferably IE on Windows ) gets to Facebook, Youtube, the news site of choice and Hotmail/GMail and the PC can run iTunes to get ripped off music on their iPod, they simply don't care! Let me repeat that for the Linux hard of hearing, THEY DO NOT CARE! OK?
( I use Linux day in day out as Unix SA/Oracle DBA and I use an Apple Mac at home, so don't start flaming me as a fanboir baiter! )
I payed off all my cards just before the net.bomb .. I really don't need or want another one; the few we have are enough to keep the books straight without a lot of headaches. (Us, the barn, the ranch, critterchow(ours), critterchow(clients), emergencies for the hands, fuel(personal), fuel(ranch), a few other niches).
Say no to credit, unless you have enough cash flow to pay 'em off monthly. It's the only way.
