back to article Obama to invent cybersecurity czar

President Obama is expected to announce late this week his decision to create a senior White House official responsible for protecting the nation's government-run and private computer networks from attack, according to a published report. The "cyber czar" will probably be a member of the National Security Council but will …

    handle cybersecurity like taxes

Wonder if he will take the same approach to cyber security as he does to taxes....

Have those who put in the time and did the hard work to secure their networks pay for the loses of those that could not bother with the work of security.... seems to be the plan for taxes. Have the folks willing to be on the road working 16 hrs a day 7 days a week that earn more be taxed at a higher rate then the majority of the population that simply choose not to work hard....

    What's one more?

We have more czars in our government than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Romanov.

What the fuck is next, an arse wipe czar? We can't have the kiddies going out with a stinky bum now can we. Oh wait, they're all arse wipes.

Decentralized competitive software development, open processes for standards definition, the Internet's decentralized structure have all provided enormous gains for IT - though obviously not perfection. Perfection probably not possible. I do include both GNU and M$ in the software development bit.

So now a Czar is going to fix the problems from the center at the top? If the position were intend solely to address government practice, that would be OK. Extending the Czar's reach into the private business sector is a bad idea, self defeating, will suppress innovation.

And really, does anyone believe that whatever the Czar comes up with will not have the worst features of, say, proposed solutions to non-government crypto systems from the '90s and 80's?

    Does anyone remember key escrow?

    Bama is clueless

Bama needs to pull his head outta his arse. He finally admitted today that America is bankrupt. Maybe the Trillions of dollars he's spent on pork might be part of the reason why? I'm sure he can find some more tax cheats to appoint to his cyber-insecurity office. Every day this guys does more damage to America.

    "Obama to invent cybersecurity czar"

Hmmmm ..... that would really need to be, in order to be in any way effective, at least a Hacker-in-Chief. Anything less and anything else, will only seriously further weaken a vulnerability ridden/riddled nation in catastrophic terminal decline.

And ..... as CyberSpace is the New Perception Control Medium, is President Obama and the Game of Politics with its Hoi Polloi of Myriad Media Players/Mediocre Camp Followers, merely as a Child's String Puppet Show in a Future Theatre of Virtual AdultERated Magic ...... for that is how far behind the Curve, with ITs CurveBalls and Googleys, the Status Quo Establishments are.

Or would El Reggers disagree? And for one to reply with any conviction whatsoever to that , one would have to have considered the Always Abiding Question ..... Who or What Pulls ALL the Strings and How is IT Done ....... with such Stealth for Immunity and Impunity?

And it is a simple inescapable fact, that those in Public Media Controlled Domain, are a Side Show, whilst Power and Control is exercised Elsewhere and by Others who would be Virtually Unknown ........ although it is as well to be made Aware, that is just as well to be Prepared for the Odd Red Herring or Three ....... with Known Virtually Unknowns being made Known and Knowing Probably Nothing about Virtually Everything........ such is the Stealth Service and Advanced Avant Garde Technology, Freely Available as Legitimate Governance Expense, Today, ........ for the Protection of Fortunes under Cyber Attack Pressures.

    I weep for thee, America

A sorry state of affairs for the Americans, surely, when the "beacon of liberty and hope" has more czars than a Romanov family reunion. Why are you doing this to yourselves, America?

    Change the title

    "Czar" sounds too fascist/communist/police state-ish.

I'd change the title to "Grand Poobah of the US Internets".
