That's a shame
Could probs have got this for 40pee 12 months ago.
The whole Jade Goody thing is so boring and unnewsworthy its untrue.
The Sun is less than impressed with this auction down at tat bazaar eBay punting a signed Jade Goody autobiography for a cool £1,000: The Jade Goody autobiography auction on eBay According to Essex-based vendor Post Packet UK Ltd, half of the cash raised will benefit Cancer Research, but a source "close to Jade" told the …
"She has no dignity. She is exploiting herself for cash and we are only doing the same. We are not doing anything illegal."
Exactly. Goody has made a life for herself by doing exactly that - exploiting herself for cash. Quite why the country sees her as such a heroine is beyond me. People suffer tragic deaths from terminal illness every day, and many show bravery and dignity in equal measure without having it voluntarily plastered across the news (for cash).
In fact, I'm fed up with seeing her face plastered across the papers every morning, when dying WW1 vets hardly get a mention. And no doubt when she's popped it we'll have all that Diana-esque stuff about her being 'so beautiful' and all that bollocks.
Of course, The Sun and all the other tabloids won't be making ANY money from reporting this feeding frenzy circus of a story will they? And I wonder how much cash they'll be donating to the cancer charities? In fact, I wonder if Goody will actually be donating any cash herself? Oh no, but she's raising awareness. Good job too; I'd never heard of cancer until she came along.
(A Canadian friend of mine reckons that it's one big conspiracy anyway. He reckons that she will miraculously recover from death's door and become some saint or something. Why? Well, most people in the late stages of cancer lose a lot of weight. She hasn't. Also, why would her results be announced on television, instead of between the doctor and the patient, in private? I'm not a conspiracy theory fan but ... bugger, I can hear the Black Helicoptors...)
"“Some people are just sick. How can you take something so tragic and make money from it? They are just heartless, callous and greedy. They are making thousands from Jade’s illness and will probably make even more from her death.”"
Now, remind me - was that what someone told The Sun or was that someone discussing them ...?
...the dozen or so signed Terry Pratchett books I have on my shelves?
It's a little tasteless to start the memorabilia flogging when Jade is still alive, they could at least wait until after the funeral. Other than that, fair play to them. Jade's cancer is getting played up as a bigger-tragedy-than-thou, expect it to get more profiteers. I personally know people who've died from cancer who made much bigger contributions to the world than Jade ever possibly could have, but they passed away relatively unknown. I could make comparisons, but I'd rather not get all judgmental over personalities.
Mines the one with all the paperback novels stuffed into it.
She has now become completely impossible to avoid.
Glance down the aisle of a train? Someone's reading a magazine with a 6 page Jade article. Like to use the tube with your eyes open? Free papers all over the floor with Jade on the cover.
And here she is in The Register. At least there wasn't a picture... not that we need reminding.
“Some people are just sick. How can you take something so tragic and make money from it? They are just heartless, callous and greedy. They are making thousands from Jade’s illness and will probably make even more from her death.”
Quoted in a red top (The Sun, not you guys)?
I lol'd. Hard.
a source "close to Jade" ***ranted at length about the gutter press saying*** “Some people are just sick. How can you take something so tragic and make money from it? They are just heartless, callous and greedy. They are making thousands from Jade’s illness and will probably make even more from her death.”
it's stupidity - had they waited the couple of weeks that she has left it would've sold for far more!!
And I think her making as much money from these last few weeks as is possible is somewhat fair, given that it's all going to her children - she's not really going to have a chance to benefit from it is she!!!
She'll be back trying to punt her vacuous vapours on "Most Haunted".
You would think that in death, at the very least - she would have some dignity. I understand the requirement to want to secure a future for the two boys she leaves behind but there are dignified ways and means to do this. I mean... as a lasting legacy she could instill in them a failsafe method that will always get them a roof and a hot meal; it's called getting and education, and working for a living... a concept strangely lost on Mrs. Goody I feel. There is a part of me though that still thinks that this is a media stunt.
I've nursed two people through cancer and seen many others suffering with it during time in Africa and with the NHS. I have first hand experience in saying that the quicker she goes... the better it'll be, for her and her family.
And for me, so I don't have to keep seeing her ugly mug on the papers.
"While sellers fall over each other to get their snouts in the trough, Goody's publicist Max Clifford noted: “Jade wants to make as much money as she can so her boys can have the best education and future. There has been a huge increase in the numbers of women going for a cervical smear test because of her."
No mention there Max of helping Cancer Research towards a miracle cures/effective treatments? And the Health Service will be also be thankful for the huge increase in screenings.

“She has no dignity. She is exploiting herself for cash and we are only doing the same. We are not doing anything illegal.”
My view too, she's been working it to earn personal redemption and cash since before she knew it was terminal. She'd have been happier if she'd been offered a cut from this sale perhaps.
Everyone has forgotten the grotesque bigot that lies beneath through a wave of sympathy. While I won't miss her, the poor kids don't deserve to lose a mother.
"According to Essex-based vendor Post Packet UK Ltd, half of the cash raised will benefit Cancer Research"
It's been upped to 100% to charity now. Attack of conscience?
Personally I bored of the whole affair and wonder exactly what is she famous for?
Paris.....same question to her :)
This sale may not be in the best possible taste, but Jade has and is still making vast amounts of money from her "celebrity". Is The The Sun itself constantly covering her sad story on their front page out of some altruistic benevolence and did OK magazine pay £700,000 to cover the wedding as a charitable act? I think not.
Whilst I feel for people who suffer from cervical cancer I do agree with that fact Jade is punting everything she's got to make loads of money. I mean come on, ever since she left the big brother house that's all she's done - sell herself, her personal life stories, make dodgy perfumes, tv shows (in general be a complete sell out) for money. Why should we suddenly think she's doing anything different just because she's terminally ill?
Fair play to anyone who's jumping on the bandwagon. Do people hold the same contempt for those who sold Diana memorabilila after she died?
Shutup you whinging gits.
I am pretty sure someone would sell this regardless (yes, varying amounts).
And what about OK Magazine (or who ever it was) using her to sell their magazines.
And herself, she is openly trying to whore herself, so she or anyone else cannot moan.
ps. Max Clifford is a cock, "can only answer to themselves", yea... i'm sure they are guilty and will go to hell. I wonder how much he is making out of all of this.
I have known many people (several in my family) who have suffered and died of various forms of cancer. They have all lived as dignified a life as possible, right up to the end. What jade is doing is terrible - frowning into every camera for every magazine and every newspaper that will listen and saying 'feel sorry for me, give me money'. Walking into my local newsagents nowadays is horrible - you can't get away from her. Exactly how will this help her boys? Teaching them that you don't have to work, get an education or try to earn a respectable living in any way, shape or form to get by - just sell your soul, dignity and every shred of respect you ever had and you can coast through life without giving a shit.
How much money can she be making? Whatever it is, the governement will take 40% up front in super tax while she's alive. Then after she pops it (assuming she actually does and that she doesn't make a 'miracle recovery' and this all turns out to be a media stunt) the government will take 40% of whatever's left in their ingenious 'inheritance tax'. So those kids will have maybe a few hundred grand to squander on booze and drugs when they reach 18, and won't have the instilled appreciation for the value of money or morals to spend it wisely. Nice one.
Jade should go and visit a Christies ward to learn how to behave. There are young kids in there with more dignity and self respect than her. And good on the etailer selling her book - give her a taste of what she's doing to the nation
What the hell are they doing, changing the donation to 100% of the sale price! That's preposterous! I suggest they withdraw the auction at once, dispatch the tea boy to finish Her off with a shovel and then relist.
This is just pathetic. A bit of bad publicity and they screw it all up. As pointed out above, everyone else (including the 'victim') is screwing every quid they can out of this - why should we stand back, hats in hand pretending to look sympathetic when we could be cashing in too?
Pass it quick - I'm off to buy some perfume...
It's good marketing.
6 months later and the seller wouldn't have been able to sell for much as her "amazing recovery" would lower the price.
If she really DOES have cancer, I feel sorry for her kids, but don't care much past that as thousands all over the world live with it and they don't get fuck knows how much for their stories of bravery.
Far be it from me to say so, but yeah, me too.
All else aside, I think in Goody's case allowing/inviting the media to snap her every move is simply the less stressful option, ultimately. They'd be all over her anyway, and if you've got terminal cancer you don't really want to be attempting to dash from hospital to car to house to taxi to hospice with a blanket over your head, do you? It's also what's familiar to her, rightly or wrongly, so maybe it affords some measure of comfort, however weird and unhealthy.
I've never had any admiration whatsoever for the woman, quite the contrary, but the fact is that she's dying a gruesome and premature death, and deserves the same sympathy and respect as anyone else in that unenviable position, as far as I'm concerned. And I think she can do what she pleases - she isn't hurting anyone, and it seems she has influenced rather a lot of women to go and get checked out. So it really doesn't make me want to mount a revolution just because she's in the papers a lot. Sorry.
I don't really have much objection to someone selling the signed book on eBay either - it's in bad taste but the main thing is that they were daft not to wait, of course. Most people who've got a famous person's autograph have it in the back of their minds that one day it'll be worth more when the autographer kicks it.
I suppose there is something appalling about this sort of commercialisation of cancer, but Goody didn't invent that, and I doubt you worry quite so much about broader media ethics when your own cells are slaughtering each other.
"I come on El Reg to get away from this low-brow crap." ..... By Richard Cartledge Posted Tuesday 3rd March 2009 10:07 GMT
Wow, Sarah Bee, that is quite a compliment for El Reg...... and richly deserved/no less than well earnt. Keep up the Good Work. :-)
Some may counter though, thinking to bask in the shadows of reflected glory, that without its fine readers, it would be less than it is and can be. And what it can be, can lead with the right stories/reports/news/views.
How about taking a Walk on the Wwwild Side and into Fields out of the Comfort Zone of Sponsored Responsibility and into Pioneering Inevitability.
Does anyone on El Reg track Crack CyberSpacers ........ http://cryptome.info/0001/nsf030209.htm ? ....... Almighty Global Operating Devices?
She is the one who has taken what is *normally* a very personal and private thing for many people who suffer horribly then die and converted it into some dark and bizarre media circus so she can milk it for the maximum financial reward. If anyone is bashing cancer sufferers it's her, she has reduced the entire process to something akin to Big Brother.
Sympathy for someone like that? Forget it. I bet her gravestone is in the shape of a moneybox.
"deserves the same sympathy and respect as anyone else in that unenviable position, as far as I'm concerned"
I totally reject that. Everyone should be treated on their merit as a whole person and not as their disease "deserves."
This subject is rather intimate to me although I'm not going to discuss it here. Suffice it to say that I would rather go loved and respected by those who know me and without abandoning my humanity for a fast buck. I suggest you read some cancer forums to see how those people cope who haven't hired a F*****g publicist!
Please refrain from your haughty judgemental comments against posters. It does you no credit and is likely to alienate other readers as it does myself. Readers can form their own views well enough.
I doubt you'll let this one through but we'll see.
I am going to stick "Jade Goody" stickers over the name and start reselling them.
Anyone want a "Jade Goody Memorial Colonic Irrigation Kit"???
(The nearest I can get to taking the pi$$)
Yeah, I'm sick of the coverage as well; she was a fat, loud-mouthed, racist, moron when she was well; so what has changed, just because she has terminal cancer????
Big Brother?? Only watched by OTHER fat, loud-mouthed, racist, morons.
The real money would be in taking a plastercast of her 'kebab' and then, after her death, making one of those flashlight things with her bits in it (you know what I'm talking about).
Actually, forget about the flashlight. You may need to use a bucket.
If Jade Goody is an indication of our society and the levels to which we've fallen, then we're all fecked.
'Please refrain'? No, shan't. Your comments are published here at our discretion (no, not just mine). You don't have any say-so in how they're moderated any more than you have rights over any other aspect of how this site is run. You can ask, and I might take it on board, but in this instance, no.
I know perfectly well how ordinary people cope with cancer, I've known far too many of them (one parent, one step-parent, one schoolfriend and more than a couple of acquaintances, if you're interested), so you can take your patronising suggestion and cram it.
I'm going to let everything else posted to this thread through providing it isn't libellous or otherwise in breach of the basics, so you can enjoy the full misanthropy I've been filtering out. Enjoy.
I have no respect whatsoever for Jade, she has sold herself since BB & now wants the undeserved sympathy from the public while she continues to do just that. Sorry none from me...trying to secure her kids future? So they are gonna need more than the rumoured £8m fortune she already has? The fact is she is hanging on to whatever fame she can no matter the cost.
Croak already.....
while it's interesting to see how much longer it is going to be before jade goody finally croaks, i can't understand why she gets to be on tv and every other average joe with cancer has to suffer with it and not get to be on tv...
either, jade goody should never have been allowed on tv (i don't mean ever) or everyone in the world who has and does (and will) suffer with cancer should have their own channel on sky.
it isn't going to happen... begone jade... and leave the money to a better cause, like... hmmm, cancer research?
Like her or not, Jade is a marketable commodity precisely because people are willing to pay up for info, gossip and pictures. Even if it is only to throw their hands up in unironic horror at the commercial exploitation of it all.
Jade is not bright. She is poorly educated. She is not talented. Nor is she particularly likeable. None of these things deserve the pillorying she has received in the press over the years, but she has clearly learned to exploit the public's prurient interest in her. If she wants to maximise the potential earnings from her death in order to provide for her family after she's gone, good luck to her. She hadn't had many of life's advantages before she became famous, and she's getting really short-changed now she's a celebrity. Let her make the most of what little she has and let's save all our hand-wringing hypocrisy for some other hate object for a while.
If you support one person's right to die with dignity, you have to support another's right to die without it.
