    Image compression

    It will be another proxy server that re-compresses images to lower quality.

    This just about works on desktop systems if the JPEGs were originally saved with an unreasonable quality setting and the user doesn't look too closely. I can imagine that it might work better on mobile devices if the browser is going to scale the image down for display anyway.

    Quite, but if you use Opera Mini oo a cell phone it will actually go through a server at Opera.
